jimmy white Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 i have ankylosing spondulitis [the same desease that chris small the edinburgh snooker player has ranked no 16 in the world, now had to give up] there are afew folk on the forum with this desease, according to the edin evening news, its a rare spinal condition in which sufferers can finish up in a wheel chair,, i joined the national ankylosing spondulitis ass.....n.a.s.s.,,,this society prodiuce a glossy mag 4 times a year which is sent to all members and doctors surgeries etc , this mag. contains all interesting articles, covering a wide range of topics, mostly advice on the desease and the various physio for sufferers to do , when i went to hosp, they had a list of all hobbies etc that would enable sufferers to keep neck movement etc fishing , darts, even kite flying when i mentioned keeping pigeons they were astounded at never thinking of that, as your looking up most of the time, even when their flying round, so they have now added this to their list of physical hobbies, all over,,,,now for the hard bit ;D ;D ;D pocket ;D if we,[ the forum] could manage a small donation , whether it be a pound coin or a cheque for a fiver, or indeed anything , i will be donating anyway, should anyone on the forum, wish to send a donation , i would only give names to the webmaster, put all donations in a "hopefully ,big bottle"put a pic of the bottle on the forum , the person who guessed the nearest amount , get a pair of ybs from a top flier. i have taken the liberty in getting in touch with the directer, and he would consider putting an article on pigeons with pics from" pigeon basics.co" maybe a young lad holding a white pigeon, and handing over the bottle,,,,,remember this mag can be bought privately but is usually sent to doctors surgeries if requested, it would be nice to see pigeon basics pic. on the front page of this mag ,and distributed to all places it could be seen,,,,,,this could only be good for all,,,,,,,,,,members thoughts :)
Guest WINGS 04 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 There used to be some feds that had rules that unless you had more than 3-4 members sending in your club you had to have them basketed at another club YES ROSE THAT IS THE CASE UP HERE YOU NEED 5 MEMBERS TO BE A CLUB
penelope Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I reckon the problem is that we all compete against each other when racing yet we need to work together to save the sport as well. It's a simple conflict of interests isn't it? We want to win the race and if we're pissed off cos we haven't we are hardly going to volunteer to stay at the club for hours working out the result only to see our name on the bottom of the sheet! Coupled with that the age of members is increasing and many aren't capable of doing the work they once did anymore. Plus, there's not exactly a huge influx of new blood to take their place. In the 21st century people want instant results, not ages of waiting and working out. They manage this on the continent and in America because the whole sport is computerised with ETS. I'm not one for technology myself but the world outside of pigeon racing is - you obviously are because you are sat at your computer looking at this now! Stands to reason really and if someone could let me know how all this technology works I'd probably be for it myself! As it is I have a very fast whippet and would recommend we go back to using runners to send a telegram from the local post office as I'd win then hands down! Whatever else I do know that pigeon racing needs to take a long hard look at itself and sort out its problems before it's too late. Above all we all want to enjoy our birds don't we? Have a pint or two and a bit of a laugh? Recount the old tales of the one that got away etc. That's what it used to be like didn't it? Change is very hard, I'm the first to admit that as I am a complete idiot on a computer. But someone somewhere has to bite the bullet and get to grips with it surely? Looking forward to seeing the pigeon basics badges at Blackpool by the way! LOL

robinthfc Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 How do the clubs work in Belgium ?..I remember reading somewhere that they don't join clubs over there, but just turn up and send at any club they want. Don't know if I've got that wrong.
Beanz Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Problem is not with the sport its the people in it, to many clashes of personalities, I won't send in that club because he does at the end of the day all you need to do is send your birds if you don't like someone for any reason well you don't have to sit with him all night, get your clock and go or move to another part of the pub and have a drink with someone else, it ain't rocket science.
Ronnie Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 All the pigeon fanciers ive met seem to have an opinion but not everyone wants to hear it,but they go ahead and spout it anyway.I think thats what cause's the problems between fliers themselves and why when people give up they dont wanna come back.(among others) .what we can do to get new members ..We could have a two week break between old birds and young birds for family's to go on holiday then just extend the young bird races a bit longer that would be ok with the weather to in this day and age. Also we need to use the technology to help the sport and the last to things above all in my opinion that the sports needs is Glamour and a big sponsor.Glamorise the sport on tv comercials and get a big sponsor in.Didnt the New's of the World used to sponsor a race years ago? There are other news papers out there who jump on the idea if given a quick push in the right direction....THE SUN ,the peoples paper backing the peoples sport.......And the likes its no good having sponsors if theve got nothing to advertise on.
Guest jason Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 i wonder if advertising pigeon feed on the telly would help, afterall they advertise cat and dog food, people may see an advert for pigeon food and think wow! never thought of keeping pigeons before, then they may look into keeping and racing pigeons. just a thought! :-/ jason

Would be good if they done it!
Guest Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 if it could be possible then it should be added into the national carriculum and be taught in all primary schools as there is no getting away from it is an art that has to be mastered ,where so many fail (myself included) then maybe we would see sport taking off but untill something like this comes about if ever it will there is no future for our sport its reality ,so the best thing for anyone to do is settle down and enjoy whats left of it and for as long as you can keep them.

ch pied Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Sammy Your right and next weekend we will raise 1000,s at blackpool and it all goes to buying a few more mini buses which i know is a great cause but it time to save our sport!!!!!!! yes , food for thought, put a hold on this and plough the money back into the sport ,about 5 year's, we need to put our house in order first, i know the money help's a lot of worthey cause's. if the trend is going to continue at the present rate in 15/20 year's the worthey cause's won't be getting anything at all

Guest Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Couple of years ago I went down to a school in Bristol. They where having a week which was called flight week. Kites, ballons, planes, helicopters, and they decided toinclude pigeons in this. what i good idea. myself and alex spence went down for the day and gave a few talks to the different classes. if this one school could incorporate this surley a few others could. Maybe if I got a draft letter together, i maybe along with a few other could get this out to schools.
Guest Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 all said and done ,it takes a lot of time something thats not on my side as i work 7 days a week (not through choice ) have done it in the past and beleive me it is quite rewarding as children will bring out the best in you with the questions that they will ask ,but however it was only talks that i done and i think for it to be beneficial it should be added to the carriculum.
