likklegriz Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 noticed a couple of eggs started to chip Fri just wandering how long they normally take or is every1 different thhe little beauties still ain't owt :
Wiley Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 it aldepends i dont think they have a set time,as it takes alot of time and energy for the babies to do this i feel at set times you can hear the egg constantly ticking then they take a brake and are back at it again so dont think there is any set time like a pregnant mother if there ready theyll come
likklegriz Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 yes that's wat i thought only my 2nd year and these lot seem to be taking longer than last years still waiting for a couple of pairs to go down they have a nest been doing all the necessary but still nowt been together know since new year
Wiley Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 been together since a year and havent laid??

Wiley Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 these hens could be barron try putting a dummy egg there they may take to it and if they do add another 1 two days later. What system do you fly? As Barron hens can be a god send in some cases?
jimmy white Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 after you see the first tiniest start of chipping [or even hearing it when put to the ear, on second day the chipping should be quite visible, and the next day there shouldtwo lovely babies,in the nest. most common thing for eggs not being laid at this time of year, are hens too fat. the pair seem to loose interest and are quite happy to sit in the box together,,if their in the proper breeding nick ,they should take right away

likklegriz Posted January 30, 2007 Author Report Posted January 30, 2007 i put false eggs under the hen fri/sun night both hen and cock sitting tight on them when best to take away to see if she'll lay herslf
Wiley Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 dont normally if there going to lay they dummy eggs will motivate them to lay aswell, once you see if theres 3 eggs take the dummys away but if not leave them there for 18 days and slip a young bird underneath to allow them to bring one up
