Guest TAMMY_1 Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Dear All The latest news from the DEFRA investigation is very good news for us. Along with a number of other hypotheses Defra, the Food Standards Agency and the Health Protection Agency are investigating the possibility of a link between the Hungarian outbreaks, poultry meat from Hungary and the introduction of disease in the farm in Suffolk. The investigation will include arrangements at the company’s adjacent plant for food processing. I will therefore be addressing the banning of bird gatherings with DEFRA at the earliest opportunity. I am literally awaiting news of the convening of the next stakeholder group meeting teleconference when this can be addressed. Some other good news has also come via DEFRA from EU countries concerning Intra-Community Trade; The positive message is that trade from the UK to other Member States can carry on, and in practice is carrying on, unaffected by the incident. This means that countries such as France, Spain and Belgium see no reason to deny our poultry producers access to their countries which in turn is good news for continental racing I reiterate my words of last weekend and would be grateful if you could spread the word to club, fed and region members especially in the light of the latest news from DEFRA on the source of the outbreak; I fully expect UK and continental racing to take place as normal this year. Providing there is no further outbreak, there is absolutely no reason to be pessimistic about racing this season. Check out www.defra.gov.uk for latest news on the investigation. Regards Peter Bryant
