mO Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Having visited S/Africa only last October and although I didn,t see or handle this years 2007 german entrys I did handle German birds from earlier SCMDR that had been sold off at auction. I was very shocked to see these very high priced birds. I would have culled them as I weaned them. I was handling COCKS that to me were smaller than my smallest HENS. very VERY SMALL BIRDS indeed. hope the above sheds a little light on the type of birds they enter. mO.

davebuttle Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 perhaps we should give our birds Carlsberg not water, then they may be the best birds in the world.
Guest Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Yes but Carlsberg would have to make them

Guest Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 An interesting one, because if you look at the prevailing winds they should succeed far more in Internationals than they do...........or is it that they do succeed but because of our love affair with the Belgian and Dutch pigeons, we do not take the notice they deserve? You certainly don't see the publicity or advetrs in our local press compared to the Dutch and Belgian birds. It may be that they do have the best birds!!?? I notice the comments about small pigeons and hard route, the best of the old Hansennes that flew from Thurso and Lerwick in to Wales were of this very ilk. And as an aside I was told that Ned Bush in S*expletive removed*horpe who is an excellent 700 miler, his birds are small and not very attractive, but I'd be delighted to have successful ugly 700 milers!!
Guest paulrstokes Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Hi I actually went out for the race and helped with the basketing. To be totally honest the best birds I handled were German and Czech. Let us not forget that they do send out almost 1200 birds, I think the country that was most dissapointed were the South Africans, sent over 1500 and I think they got 2 in the first 20. I had a debate with another english fancier who said the Germans had anh unfair advantage, due to moult etc, I advised that we are in the same hemisphere and suffer the same seasons therefore no advantage. I think we have just got to admit beat by better birds.
Guest slugmonkey Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Didn't the Germans also win the World Ace Challenge ??? I think the moral of this story is keep breeding short / middle distance birds for these races ???
Guest paulrstokes Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I think team sylt also did well in the asia pacific race
