There and I was informed by a very reliable Vet - world renowned - that he doesn't recommend or use Electro because of the dehydration it may very well cause as it dries them them out.

Of course they get thirsty, another reason wht 'Garlic' helps lose wieght etc. because they only drink just bear essentisals and HAT makes them thirsty. - must replenish wih clear water after Garlic.

Think it may be that folk who market pigeon products jumped on the electolytes from the human athletics world and thought what's good for us is good for pigeons;  Not as straightforward as that as humans sweat thro their skin, losing water & salts in the process. Electrolytes are a must for them.  :)

But pigeons don't sweat thro their skin to lose heat thro evaporation, they lose heat directly from their lungs, as water vapour. They lose only water. The salts stay in the body and are converted to urates which are pumped round the body in the bloodstream to help keep the bird cool.

What the bird needs when it gets home after the race is water, and plenty of it. There's work which shows that given access to all the plain water that it needs, even a severely dehydrated pigeon will be fully rehydrated within 30 minutes.
