Bobthegas Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Words of advise please, I have two 18 x 8 sheds, but i have a problem with cats. If i take the bird trainning there is nobody back home to trap them in, im worried about the cats getting on the shed roofs and attacking the birds. I have a cat, but he is locked in when exercising birds and trainning, i came home from work last week and there was a neighbours cat sitting on the supertrap!!!!!! Answers: Electric fence around the roof area of shed. Electric cat repellar...Do these work? Serious advise please?..i cannot shoot them or get a dog, or send them on a holiday. Bob
Sally McQueen Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 We have a cat deterant but in our old house it didnt bother one cat maybe that was deaf or something but we were forever chasing it away, dont know about electric fence. What about putting fenceguard prickler along fence so they cant get in???? Good luck ;D
Guest jason Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I had one of those electric cat deterents a while back and it worked perfect, until it filled with rain water! I've tried replacements but not as effective?? If you put an electric fence round the roof, the birds may touch it :-/ I tried that 'prickler' (plastic spikes on strips) works a treat. Jason
Guest jason Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Yes mate but he's as much use as a choclate fireguard, he goes in everyone elses gardens instead of protecting his own : Jason
Wiley Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Yes mate but he's as much use as a choclate fireguard, he goes in everyone elses gardens instead of protecting his own : Jason doesnt suprise me if you had a cat deterrent up if he stayed in eveyone elses lmao!
Ronnie Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 No disrespect mate but if ya let your cat go in everyone else's garden why shouldnt everyone else's go in your's?As for detterants i used carpet gripper instead of them prickler thing's they do the same job for a lot cheaper.Ive got a dog but it didnt stop the cat's on me shed where the dog cant reach.
stevebelbin Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I also have 2 cats, but they are house cats that are permanently locked in the conservatory. I recently purchased a cat deterant to keep any local cats away from the birds. I tested it on my cats and they didnt even flinch!!!!
Guest Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Cat walks along my 'prickler'; if I was doing it again I'd use carpet gripper. BHW a few years back: cat deterrant - lifelike toy snakes. Know that a club mate made his own. Electronic deterrants work but the area covered differs. Have seen footprints in snow come within 11 feet of mine and then turn away; also saw a cat in the garden for the first time last week sitting under our hedge (behind and below the deterrant) don't know if it was the deterrant or the cat seeing the family in the kitchen that frightened it off.
Beanz Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 A friend of mine had one of the cat detterrents but he said it only worked for about 12 months and then the cats got used to it, he thought maybe the battery was on the blink so he bought a new one with no difference whatsoever.
Guest shadow Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 have used cat deterants fot 12 years and have only had one problem cat a white one which was deaf, they can go out of synch. but then just bought a new one got my from regency lofts
Suicidal Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I had worn out 3 electric fences, running off car batteries, and it was the best deterrant I ever used for keeping cats away. I even used to have 2 springer spaniel pups, and they touched it once, but never again. When you put up your fence for the first time, open a can of sardines and squeeze the flesh and oil right along the line fence. Then leave a little bit of sardine in the can, and place it halfway between the electric fence wire on the floor. This will encourage the cats in, but once they touch the fence, sniffing at the sardines, they wont come back once they get a belt on their wet noses :o ,,, guaranteed. http://onlygreyhounds.blogspot.com
Roland Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 An electric fence, simple and there are now specially made ones for cats. I have and will stick to the one the farmers use. his can also be used on a battery charger. Once they have had a twinge, they put the nose on it or such as they can smell the electric apparently, they don't press against it again.
Guest Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 What happens to the pigeon if it comes in contact with an electric fence?
Suicidal Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 In all the years I erected an electric fence around , and on top of my pigeon lofts, I never saw any pigeons injured whatsoever, and it certainly didnt stop them winning. http://onlygreyhounds.blogspot.com
THE FIFER Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 the best cat deterent is the SCARECROW water one, get them at RIDEWOODS, fix to ur outside tap, they are great,
sj irving jnr Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 i got told rubber snakes you get out of the toy shop, they recon cats are terrified of snakes
Roland Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Never bother the pigeons, leave enuf room for the Cat to crawl under... he'll raise his tail... or with a wet nose snif it. Pigeons if landed on it wouldn't be earthed, and will bob under it. Pence a week to run. Never mind the Water, and cats cetianly hate water, but I KNOW the elctric fence will be working every time, whereas I would feel safe trusting a water JMO
Guest Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Lay in bed last night and watched the back light come on the cctv cat jumped over the fence and landed 2ft from the cat repeler and came right back over the fence in a hurry thats enough proof for me .
