Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 know you are meant to stamp them, but do you think this does any good, I always stamp young birds but last two seasons lost a plenty young birds and never had one reported to me because of the wing stamps, any were reported through shu or stray centre.
Guest Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Ive had lots of strays in the past few years race rubered yet no stamp? I often think that the markers in the clubs should have a quick check before basketing,
Guest Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Not sure that it makes much difference but at least you've done your part to get your bird back if it goes adrift. Pity that the young bird stray arrangement in Scotland during YB racing isnt a UK thing for all birds. You don't report them, you put them in the club stray basket and they're back with the owner inside 48 hours, cost £3.50 per bird..
davebuttle Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I was checking my YBS today and thought i am sure have stamped all these and wrote down the numbers. It has faded already and i only did them about 3 weeks ago. Perhaps i need some fresh ink for my stamper, but it looks ok on paper and on the wings when i did them. Dave

Dave I found you get better waterproof ink out the stationers than the ink you get with pads

Guest Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 i have mine wing stamped and have address coil ringson them as well..which are bright yellow...last season i had two reported....one in town other out of. i think because of many.. (not a few) , fanciers have been letting their duty go, by not ringing up reported birds.the kind fancier who reports either gets abuse or the line....im old, broke cant send for ....or im packing in at the end of the season...or can u sling it up round this way matey!!!...seems that the birds dont get reported like they used too because of reasons like these.im sure we have all had one of these excuses . i have had in one season 56 strays...besides others who just took a drink then left. now i have a rule that if it aint wing stamped /or got some kind of info then its released up or down the road.i have no time for those that dont take the time to have no kind of info on their birds. these flyers let the rest of us down who bother to follow wing stamping rules. its a pity that the rpra /whpu/su and so on werent more stricter then they are....paul
gangster Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 MINE HAVE THE PHONE NO RINGS ON I BOUGHT OFF THE BELGIAN STAND AT BLACKPOOL.......
madmaxlofts Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 i always stamp mine to be honest if there stamped or not it makes no difference some people are ruthless they must bin them coz very rare ive had any back
gangster Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 when i go down to my mates on anglsea i bring back basket loads of birds the 1ns that are stamped i phone , but alas many especially NEHU/SCOTTISH are not but they get liberated here ive hads calls from n/ireland cumbria/ n.yorks letting me knowthey are home, unfortunatley when they get on anglsea they are very reluctent to leave because of PERCY in numbers....please keep stamping coz not all flyers are the same...a little help goes a long way......heres 1 for you for 3 years running on the same weekend my friend got the same blk/drk cock in this pigeon had won numerous club/fed 1sts and never been missing apart from same race each year.....i believe it was a scottish bird and the guy stopped racing him after the last time he was at my friends so even the good ones make mistakes.....
Guest Vic Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Strange but true Gangster! I had the same happennings here many years back. For 3 years running, a Scottish cock was a regular caller here, on the evening of the Rennes race, arriving about eight at night on the first occasion, but making this place a sort of "half way house" on his way home. It was a lovely b&b . I would feed him lightly and liberate him at the crack of dawn the following day. I may be wrong, but something tells me, that he was actually in the money on one of these occasions. Dont you Northern guys stamp your obs? Because dozens and dozens that have dropped in here over the years, were never stamped, and these include UNC pigeons along with Scotish ones. Vic.
Guest Hjaltland Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I've decided, right or wrong , to put regular name rings on the ybs this year. Its so very rare to have a bird reported even wi wing stamps.
THE FIFER Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I found you get better waterproof ink out the stationers than the ink you get with pads thats where i got mine 2 years ago and still using it, and stays on.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 thats where i got mine 2 years ago and still using it, and stays on. thats what i found as well fifer, disnae fade or come off
gangster Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 ITS THE FANCIERS RESPONSIBILITY TO STAMP THERE OWN BIRDS YOU ALWAYS GET 1 SMART ARSED MUPPET WHO THINKS THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY TO THEM AND TRY SENDING THEM, I DONT WANNA BE MR POPULAR BIT IF I FIND 1 ITS NOT GOING END OF..RULES ARE RULES.......
Guest Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Vic, as far as I know in Scotland, SHU has not authorised wing stamping / telephone ringing of OBs. I prefer the telephone ring myself, SHU has authorised it, but again as far as I know, its down to individual Feds to allow it, and don't think mine does.

I prefer the telephone ring myself, SHU has authorised it, but again as far as I know, its down to individual Feds to allow it, and don't think mine does. the problem with shu is they brought in the rule 26, quote: members of all shu clubs should wing stamp all their young birds with either a/ a personal tel number or address, b/ their club address or name, that any member not complying should not be allowed to race their ybs. this was the new rule, but they did not delete the old whic is rule 24 quote: individual organisations will decide whether members may be allowed to race young birds which are wearing removable address rings or which have been wing stamped with name address or telephone number, both are in the book,
Chatrace Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 if you go to EBands it is best not to use 2 leg bands as it makes the Chipring rub the foot
ALF Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 aye yours will be gettin posted hame might be a few of them getting posted home! have you heard who the assistant race controller is this year :o :o :o
Guest Vic Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 So, without beating about the bush, there is no rule that obs don't NEED to be stamped? CRAP!
Guest Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 So, without beating about the bush, there is no rule that obs don't NEED to be stamped? CRAP! Don't think it's a matter of 'you don't need to' Vic, if I read your post correctly, its a matter of even if you want 'you are not allowed to'. Also Fifer's post on SHU requirement for either a stamp or a ring on young birds , Rules 24 / 26, SNFC have a rule which countermands that:- SNFC rule 22 - 'Birds stamped with owners name & address will not be allowed to compete'. so much for keeping it simple ....
Guest Vic Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 My mind has always boggled with up north procedings, even football wise' Why have the Scottish Maestros disappeared from the scene? clubwise and internationally.
