Diamond dave Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Does anyone know if it is safe to treat adult birds with Biozine wormer when they are feeding babies? - It doesn't say anything about it on the packet. D.D.
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Don't know about biozine but you can treat using moxidectin safely! It also kills lice at the same time, Brian Wall at gems can get you some.
Diamond dave Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Thanx Darren. Unfortunately, I have already bought this biozine to Traet the birds prior to racing so I 'm reluctant to use anything else - just wanted to know if is safe for the squabs - it contains piperazine dihydrochloride if anyone can help? D.D.
Larry Lucas Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Piperazine is a pig wormer used for years to deal with roundworms in pigeons. In recent years it has lost its effectiveness for roundworms and was never effective for other types of worms. It does not work well. You would be better off to throw it in the dust bin and pick up some moxidectin. Far more effective for several different kinds of worms and safe for the birds.
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Good that you know what the active ingredient is. Piperazine is one of the earliest and safest wormers, doesn't actually kill them, knocks 'em out and bird expels them naturally. As a general rule, wouldn't give the birds anything when rearing. Some of the pigeon teas also contain natural wormers, again they shift them, rather than kill them. Garlic is another, known to shift ascarids (round worms).
jimmy white Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 dont think it would do the yb,s any harm , but there are better wormers nowadays piperazine, used for ascarids [worms] adverse reactions,,none very common narrow spectrum wormer, and as bruno says,, the drug sedates the worm and the bird must pass the worm, before the drug is gone,or it will remain in the pigeon,,,personally i would go for ivermectin,[ a lot of people would disagree with me ] but i have found this to be highly effective and safe for all worms except tape worm
Diamond dave Posted April 19, 2007 Author Report Posted April 19, 2007 Thankyou all, I am very greatful for your help D.D.
