Went in the loft today and saw a pair on the floor with an unpaired cock in their box pecking and feeding their squeak. The squeak has no feathers on its head now and looks a right mess. I am sure this cock has been pecking the squeak.

Will the feathers grow back soon and what should i do to stop this  happening again???

Must remove the offender, seems it is impateince and keen to mate... Needs a nest box away from the others if possible, and locked in it's nest box with his hen.

I had a youngster scalped this time. :(  The feathers have regrown and you can't see where the damage was but, it's put the bird back - it's not yet flying out with others the same age. I hope in time it will catch up! :-/

Hmm, can't really remember how long they took to grow - maybe three/four weeks.

I moved the baby and its nest mate into the young bird loft and then allowed it's father in three times a day to feed it. My young birds are in the same loft as the breeders - separated by a wall so the cock just had to run through the door - it soon got the hang of what to do! ;)
