I always send my yearlings from my distance team to bergerac 438 miles to me. They all go and those that make good work of it generally come from Pau as 2 year old and older.

What I don't do is send them inland and I don't bring them out till middle of May. They get 2 possibly 3 channel races, 3 weeks rest then Bergerac. Haven't lost one yet but as everyone says rest is the key no hammering them every week.

If any one cares to see my posts I state that yearlings are more than capable of winning upto 500 miles, especially with sun on their back. Prince Jackson was getting yearling regularly from the 1000 miles. My main point is simple that yearling are apt to catch a cold in cold wins.... and many then are no good later on ... Also remember well a tough 450 miler when I first starter, where a yearling belted home in the pour non stop rain, and won Fed to boot, indeed only 7 home on day. Ernie Wilson, a wiley ole flyer said.... 'He'll lose that nigh first race next season, that's if he still has it ...' How right he was. Should have had a year out...

Our birds the same Darran dont start usually till the end of May  I agree that yearlings are quite capable of doing 500ml races and often winning them and i dont disagree about keep sending yearlings as long as it hasnt taken too much out of them but if mine come back and i wasnt happy with them i wouldnt keep pushing them Id rather leave them alone and not send them again until i was really sure they were right or even leave them till the next year

Words of experience there chaps!!
