john robo Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 any more from the liverpool lads on returns from yesterday... i sent 9 birds to this race. had 5 birds back in 5 mins space (about a 90 mins behind the winner) and no more since ??)
tubbles Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Gangster, I sent 6 to the race and am still two out and in our club i think it is about the same for most. can't speak for the fed but i heard that on the night one lad who sends quite a few was twenty out in this and ten out from the midlands national. Can't verify that but thats what i heard. Think we were expecting a slow one with it being the first REAL test for them and it had to come so far out (196 miles). : :B :
Pompey Mick Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 I think the deciding factor was the cold headwind, a definite shock to the system for the birds after what has been a mainly warm start to the season. Return wise we had a good race from Messac 208mls, but the birds were really showing it when they came, looked like they had flown a hell of a lot more than 200 mls. As for the Portsmouth lib for the NW fanciers, the birds did eventually get away with no sign of any batches locally during the afternoon, and no reports of strays in local lofts. I would have thought the later libs would have fared better, but the there was reports of appproaching rain later in the day which probably was the deciding factor in letting them go at 8.00. How did the later libs fare?
Guest Vic Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 I was preparing two nice yearling hens for the Liverpool two bird. I got one on the day, which will be going, but the other its nestmate arrived second day with most of the secondaries and more, missing in exactly the same place on both wings. A four inch gap either side, nearest to its body. It seems that whatever attacked it, only tore the feathers out, and didn't have any flesh contact. One lucky bird maybe, cos PERCY DOESN'T MISS MANY! Has anybody else, seen likewise? What a season! Vic.
