Okitsme Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Hi Guys, Would I still be able to breed young birds say about the end of June? I have a hen but dont have a cock for her but I am getting one soon so it will take a while to pair her up and then let her lay. Is it advisable or should I wait until next year? :B
Guest Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Hi mate i bought some youngsters off Richard Howey last year i got them june/july i managed to get a couple of training tosses as babies & i got 3 from 3 of these birds from Messac this week 264 miles & it was a bad race so yes i would breed
Roland Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Yes Okit'sme, I bred a pair of youngsters in June, that were the first ever to Fly Thurso as y/b's from this neck of the woods... Richard Howey land I believe. And regardless what you may here, the only detrimental thing about August / September bred youngsters is that 18 months before you fly them proper. But a couple of tosses, a couple of 100 mile races first o/b season and next season they take all the beating, bred and reared in the purple, and if you you have a disastrous y/ bird season, you will have some cracking 19 month old birds as two year olds. You can do far worse, so if you have patience and room, Latebreds are a must I believe. Good luck
thunderboult Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 1 of my best racers last year(scored in 4 nationals) was a latebred in 2004 only flew around the loft, 2005 6 races to 150mls then 2006 flew every race
