DOVEScot Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Is it true that a hen will lay eggs every month aproximately at the same time whether paired or not
chickadee Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Why does a hen thats not paired lay unfertilised eggs?
DOVEScot Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 NO! Thank you for your informative answer, nobody going to pull you on that one ;D ;D ;D
Guest speckled Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 ah call me thick lol chickadee but lol bit like if ya sleep with a girl ya dont get babys ;D ;D (just the motion) bit like pigeons, need a cock to fertalise them. but hens thay will sit weather thay know the eggs full or not :X :X :Xi think i best be quiet lol Speck :X :X :X :X
Guest Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Hens that are paired [to a cock or another hen] have a monthly cycle. If you have them on pot eggs you'll find that they sit the full term, 18 days + 3/4 days over , then the pair 'rise' [stop sitting eggs] and start going 'back down' to their next nest. If she last laid on 25th May then she'll lay again on 25th June, etc. Good way to keep an eye on hen on basket day - I check her date before sending, make sure she has plenty of time [days] to get back before she is due to lay again. As Speck says, you need both sexes together and treading before you have any chance of a fertilised egg - one that will hatch. Two hens will pair and tread and both will lay in the one nest - but these eggs are infertile, they won't hatch.

Maybe its just an age thing ;D ;D ;D

peterpau Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 An odd hen may lay and sit and they may be fertile if a cock has been around
Guest Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 There's another quaint twist - hen can store her last cock's sperm. Don't know for how long, or how it works, but another reason for a lone hen's eggs being fertile..
Guest speckled Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 :X :X :X like i said im staying hush :X :X :X :X :X :X :X :X
