Agreed, Roland. Was struck by the bit that at one time it was the norm for people to own a few pigeons and a few chickens too. On the chickens side, my dad had a run in the back garden, loooong time ago but can still remember 'the coq' the hens and blacktarred coop.

yes a great bit of reading roland  :) i can just remember the end of the ration books where we were only allowed so much eggs ,butter sugar etc etc per week once your ration was used that was that :) my father kept the hens where we used to swap a trawlerman neighbour, eggs for fish , these were the best of free range hens eggs for the freshest of fish ,,,,,,at one time we kept the pigeons in the same hut as the hens ;D
