mobster Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 can you give me an advise on how to choose whether a sputnik a stall trap on a loft. which is better when using on racing purposes? regards gary
Guest shadow Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 It is a matter of choice which ever you prefer, I have found both types of trap slow the birds down as they approach the loft and have gone back to open door trappingwith my old birds fly hard fly fair
snowy Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 ive noticed that the bob trap does slow them down sometimes, but what i tried & worked is removing the bob completley (making sure no stock birds inside) keeping them hungry they go straight through straight away, then next time add a few bobs 2-3, straight through again, then when used to this add a few more untill completly used to it, then its no problem, takes a bit of time but well worth it, can notice the difference in speed going through.
Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 http://www.redroselofts.com/trapping.htm This is a very easy way of trapping the birds
westburylofts Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 LOOKS LIKE A VERY FAST AND EASY WAY OF TRAPPING THE BIRDS I LIKE THE IDEAR THAT IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS AN AVAIRY. RAY
snowy Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 great idea rose, going to build an avairy on the side of our loft soon
Guest Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Ray it is the easiest task on earth to get the babies to learn to come in from the aviary and learn how to use the trap.
westburylofts Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 MUST SAY IT LOOKS A GOOD WAY OF DOING IT, MIGHT HAVE TO GIVE IT A GO ON OUR YB LOFT RAY
Chatrace Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I liked the Stall traps till we went E-Clocks Now there is just bobs and no stall slides
carl Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Excellent traping system linda, would it work without ets do you think
Guest Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 sorry must have missed your mail carl, yep it can be used very easily without the ETS Pad
symbro Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 wish i could see a better picture of the "hole" where exactly is the pad placed? i was told that it cant be "on" the landing board... since technically it is before the birds "enter" the loft
Guest coxy Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 they use tht sort of trapping system on roller kit boxes
MsPigeon Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 wish i could see a better picture of the "hole" where exactly is the pad placed? i was told that it cant be "on" the landing board... since technically it is before the birds "enter" the loft Here is the AU rule about placement of the antenna Symbro. 16.06 System antennas shall only be installed in the loft entry of the competitor using the system. The majority (more than one-half the width) of the Electronic Band Scanning System sensor/antenna must be within the entrance of the loft. (This may be an entry into an aviary or into the face wall of the loft, as long as it is considered the entrance). The race bird does not need to be contained.
MsPigeon Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 The IF rule says: ) The scanner shall be placed no more than six inches from the opening in the loft from which said loft was surveyed to determine the airline.
T_T Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Iv'e always found that the pigeons " test " the bobhole wires before entering. On a race day I would think their shoulders are sore from the fly so anything that allows easy entry ( as hyacynths does ) would be a bonus. Just thinking about the stumbling block with fanciers at the present ( ETS ) I have 20 widowhood boxes and fly open door. Would I have to have a pad in each box ?
Guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Dont think so TT, have you a small corridor you can walk the birds over to enter the windowhood section, you could always set the pad in floor for the birds to walk over and register in the ETS
peterpau Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 ETS would be great but as we still live in the dark ages in England we find stall traps suit us best but it's just a personal thing
mobster Posted March 9, 2006 Author Report Posted March 9, 2006 can you share to me and the others the measurement of your sputnik trap? gary
Guest shadow Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Have a look on boddy & ridewoods site that will give you the measurements of spunnick traps. "Shadowood Lofts"
speedbird Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 ive always used open door method as birds always trap straight onto there boxes. with ybs i ahve a small passage with sputnik traps of which i pit a bar accross on race days works well for me which my dad has used for over 25years
