just confused about this baby pigeon from my breeder. it has feathers all over its feet.

its parents are normal and dont have feathers on their feet.

 

do you guys know such strain of a racing pigeon that has feathers on their feet (bell bottom)..

HI GARY,I BELIEVE THAT YEARS AGO A STRAIN OF RACING PIGEONS THAT HAD THE FEATHERED LEGS AND FEET WERE THE WEGGE,S AND THE GITS,WOULDN,T THINK THERE ARE ANY OF THEM ABOUT NOW BUT I SUPPOSE THAT YOURS COULD BE SOME SOUGHT OF THROUGH BACK TO THEM.WHAT STRAIN OF BIRD HAVE YOU GOT.

Mobster, I have a few feathery footed pigeons, which originate from a busheart hen that use to win over the water in our club about ten years ago, I dont know were she was from, but every one of mine that has feathery feet have done well over the water.

If you look at the pictue of the red cock bird on the left you will see

he has feathered feet,  he is a Janssen  from the Pickering line's

all his yb's have feathered legs, but not all have the amount he has.

 

Think you get the odd throw back every now and then.

I HAVE A FEW FEATHRED LEG TYPES ALL DOWN FROM ANGUS NELSON HEN 3 NAT NANTES   [LEAST IT WILL KEEP THEIR LEGS WARM IN THIS WEATHER]A LOT OF THE OLD GITS HAD THIS TRAIT,,,, ;D ;D A LOT OF THE OLD GITS HAVE OTHER TRAITS NOWADAYS ;D ;D ME INCLUDED ;D ;D

i think westy thats what we call a frill,theres other traits like tufts at the back of their heads, a lot of van geels had this, and theres feathered legs, sbelbin will tell you about that as i sent him one, and i think he might have some, its just traits in breeding

Heard yesterday from my Beginner that he has just weaned to Janssen pigeons with feathered feet.

The Smerle of Liege was a pigeon used in developing the modern racing pigeon.  A fast very short distance pigeon.  This bird was based, as I recall, on the owl pigeon or turbit.  That is the genetic origin of the feathered feet hatching in your lofts, in my opinion.
