expat1 Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 Just for information only One of the mainstays of France is there Chicken Farms. Did you know that the French send all there poultry to Belgium to be culled and prepared for the Table and then returned to France. It is still going on but the pigeons cannot race out of France. Plus the fact that the Belgian Minestry has not stopped the pigeon racing in France the French themselves have But the Twist is this a Flu Outbreak in France and the French stop Pigeons racing out of France and into another country which has no problems, had it been the other way around i could see the logic of it Now The French still export the wild Song Birds from France into other countries including England, Sorry i mean Britain, Plus the fact that the French were still sending there pigeons into Belgium up to a week last Saturday for liberations Steve, expat1
expat1 Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Yes Rose they have, unless it suits them not too The French Government change there minds faster than the wind changes direction Steve
Guest Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 What you describe Steve is much the same as our Bernard Matthews Hungary affair, bits and pieces of turkey shipped half ways across Europe part-processed to be 'finished' hundreds of miles away from where bird had been slaughtered. Believe the same shipping procedure was responsible for the rapid spread of F&M thro Britain 2002. One thing this proves tho is that this poultry industry practice is more likely to spread AI than racing pigeons is.
expat1 Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Bruno I do not know if the Chickens are still alive or dead when they are sent to Belgium. I would much rather think that they are alive otherwise there would be no point in it, Whatever the practise of the French it is mind boggling when they have the Flu problem in there own country and can send stuff into another country free of problems Plus not allowing pigeons to fly out of there country into a country that has no Flu problems it just does not make sense, In fact i think they have got to the stage where they themselves do not know what they are doing
Roland Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Yes strange that.... believe it is down to costs and tax etc. though. France send a lot of different stuff into Beuim and bring it back after a week so I was informed to - day .... not on about poulty though.
Guest Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Defra will be tit for tatting over Mad cow's for many years to come at every opportunity...............which ain't good for us, that's why as posted elsewhere RPRA need to pursue through the courts providing Council (Queen's) say that there is at least a 50% chance of winning.
Guest Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 No imports allowed into UK from AI affected areas in Czech Republic or Germany:- http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trde/cins/index.htm 48 other countries ban on imports from UK due to AI in UK. http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trde/cins/2007/07173.htm Curiously, no ban on France imports into UK due to AI.
