Guest valiant Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 lots of birds missing from aycliffe race with midlothian fed i sent 29 got 21 home some club members lost half there team.
tyson Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 some members have lost more than half there teams I think its about time midlothian members had a damn good think to themselfs as when these birds were liberated the border hills were shut out
davebuttle Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 I watched them lib on Saturday, shy was good and clear, had a strong wind but not overpowering. All the birds cleared very well, and even went in the right direction (wish mine would). We had 3 or 4 club members watching and we couldnt believe how quick so many birds cleared. Dave
tyson Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 not saying it was,nt good at race point but the border hills were shut out pentland fife fed were sitting at otterburn and did not lib until 12.50 /13.15 because of terrible weather across the cheviot hills with torrential rain and zero vis
jimmy white Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 I watched them lib on Saturday, shy was good and clear, had a strong wind but not overpowering. Dave if birds are liberated in these conditions ,, they should be allmost able to go through any thing , it was ok this end ,, but something odd nowadays with homing birds :-/,,,,,its happened on good days ?
Guest Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Two things spring to mind: (1) birds that disappear quickly into a clear blue sky spell pending disaster for some. We had a similar experience 2 years ago with OBs at Stratford-upon-Avon, where convoyer told controller exactly same thing, and the controller was worried by that. Most of our birds were lost and it was reckoned most of convoy overshot our Fed area and continued into North of Scotland. (2) Would birds released in Durham area heading for 'Edinburgh' not track down the east coast, say east of Coldstream, west of Berwick? Why would they come inland if the conditions weren't good in the various hills and valleys north and south of the border ? How was the coast?
doos r us Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 we are trying the north rd with ayr this year touch wood only lost 2 average 30 per week from 3 races can it have somthing to do with no other pigeon traffic in the lib area apart maybee aberdeen /nth scot fed compared to the rest of the traffic in the border/nth england area going all directions
tyson Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 bruno midlothian birds were liberated at 7.20 and as you know n/west did not liberate till 10.00am from coldsream so that even east of the cheviot was not good the first birds from kelso lib at 8.45 lanarkshire 9.30 because of poor vis at race point
frank-123 Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 really sorry midlothian got it bad again but i posted on saturday after liberation why did pentland fed and fife both hold till after lunch time as they were further north than midlothian did the controller phone pentland or fife to see what they were doing?
tyson Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 believe they have been relieved of there duties
frank-123 Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 you kaybee jack will put your name forward
kaybee Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 good suggestion Bart but wouldn't have thought I'll get anywhere near the job. must be a good few interested in being the race controller though. not. will just have to wait and see who the fed go for.
