burr Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Two Questions, I am going to use ¾ plywood floor, should I paint it and is white OK? Should I paint all of the inside and again is white OK? About the roof, I am thinking about that corrugated aluminum with insulation to block the radiated heat or should I just use ½ plywood also. It's very hot over here! Lots of rain also
Tony C Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 Burr I wouldn't paint the inside of the loft, I would leave it to allow the wood to breath. Regarding your roofing material I've no idea of the temperature fluctuation where you are but if you work along the lines of trying to achieve a constant temperature in your lofts you wont go far wrong.
jimmy white Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 wouldnt paint it with gloss, but would emulsion it with pale blue , a calming colour for the birds [ thats why the canary men have their show cages painted pale blue]
burr Posted August 26, 2006 Author Report Posted August 26, 2006 Very interesting you guys. I was going to paint it bright white for my old eyes but that’s why I asked The List. I will have to treat it for termites; they are so bad here you can’t use wooden clothes pins are you clothes will be on the ground by the time you get to the end of the line. Maybe light blue walls and bare floor or some kind of hard dark paint that can be scraped!
burr Posted August 26, 2006 Author Report Posted August 26, 2006 PS: It’s very hot here, about 30-34 most of the year with lots of rain, the humidity is above 90 most of the time. Very little wind. peterpau Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 I think if you're gonna use corrugated sheets, it might be an idea to paint the top white, to reflect the heat.
