DOVEScot Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 5mx2m with that base you definetly didnae study the deflection of beams at college lad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! beef it up. That's the basic outline of the base in the picture. It's 8" x 2" doubled round the the frame, supported in the four corners and also in the middle of 5m length, so 8x2 x 2 pinned with a span of 1.6m it will be well supported Yes I have a class1 engineers cert and know fine well about beam deflection, wait and see the base as it developes Just positioned, pinned the joists and squared them cape and corner today Thanks though

tubbles Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 If the neighbours are complaining about the height, before you get too far could you not dig down 18" just a thought and i don't know what the ground is like but then you could slope it to the front of loft and it would be the same height as you told them. 8)
