Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 When do you seperate your birds to get them ready for next year ? or do some keep them together all year round ?
Guest Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Last year I thought I would do something different and left all young and old birds together all winter. I had comment like ' they wont moult properly' etc etc. But this year I had my best old bird season ever. Winning around 5 x 1st! Flying natural that it. the birds just seemed so happy!
sapper756 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Now that the season is over, I will be seperating all my pairs over the next week or so, also disposing of birds to make way for next season,s team.
Guest Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 No hard and fast rule, but seperated them last weekend, a week after my last race and a week after I had broken 4 new introductions to the loft. Had unpleasant task of removing 3 that had made no contribution to my loft, and wanted to get that out of the way as quickly as possible and as the bin gets emptied this week, last weekend seemed to fit the bill.
Wiley Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 I seperate all the sexes the sunday after the last race!
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Do people seperate their darkness youngsters as well as I have been told its best just to shut them up after the last race and let them moult out properly without causing any stress by moving them into a differant sections e.t.c.

My darkness youngsters are treated no differently from the rest of my race team, at this time of year. Never had a problem getting them through the moult.
stevebelbin Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 The year i moved mine into my back garden, i kept them together so i could settle them and they started dropping flights a bit early the season after. Dont know if this was because they had been paired or because the stress of a loft change altered their moult. Seperated all mine off on saturday to keep quieten them down for the winter.
