T_T Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Hi All, How long would corn last in a sealed container. ? I'm thinking of getting my racing corn now for next season, can any of you see any problem with that ? I would get enough to last me until next Sept.
Guest coxy Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 DEPENDS ON ENVIRONMENT KEPT IN AS THE CORN MAY SWEAT ECT
Guest shadow Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 corn needs to breathe so do not seal it tight in plastic containers
Guest Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Got mine November time last year, and on last 5kg this week. As long as it is stored in plastic bins [type with a lockable lid] and storage area is dry and vermin-free, feeding will keep for as long as needed.
Brian Smith Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Why would you buy corn for next year now, the best corn is the freshest I.E feed it the year it is harvested whenever possible.
crazy pigeon boy Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 most bags of corn i.e versal laga buxtons and banfords have best before date printed on the bags but make sure you keep it in a dry place and it will last no problem
Brian Smith Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Corn will keep indefinitely if kept in the right conditions I.E cool and dry but the older it gets the more nutrients it loses,so again why buy for next year.
T_T Posted September 12, 2007 Author Report Posted September 12, 2007 Well it's certainly not going to get any cheaper and it dosn't cost anything for it to be kept in air tight barrels so the question was asked and answered. Even now you see different answers and that is I think the point of the forum.
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I buy mine for convenience and for peace of mind - its in there and no hiccup in supply / demand can affect that. Don't know where or when my grain is harvested, I go by 'best by' date on the bag, which is within one year of purchase and its finished before that. Wondered when grain harvested within / outwith Britain during autumn 2007 would be available in our stores?
THE FIFER Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 kept in the right conditions there should be no problem, i would mix it a bit to turn over every now and then,
