Guest Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Other than change to a moulting mix, I just let them get on with it.

Wiley Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 aye all the same wateva the spelling
mark Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 surely its better to let a bird moult naturally. why do you want to mess with nature speeding up the moult on a pigeon, thats the problem with some pigeon fanciers always after a quick fix,
Hogni Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 I would have to agree with Mark, can anyone even point out a reason why we should speed up the moult.I have always tried to do things as much natural as possible and i do not even know most of the diseases i have read about on the web and i truly believe it has got something to do with my natural ways of doing things.
blackjack Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 New Wheat helps the moult through .
Guest Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Find it a little odd that interfering with normal moult is considered 'not Natures way' here in this thread, yet in the dozen or so threads on 'Light System' and 'Dark System' and unbelievably, even one on the 'Light & Dark System', 'not Nature's way' hasn't been mentioned? :-/

We give ours conditioning seed mixed in with their other seed, don't think it speeds up the moult proccess but it helps them through it, i otherwise do nothing else to interfere with nature. ;D

T_T Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I think the Buttermilk system as explained by the Boschend Flyers supposedly not only assists the darkness youngsters and natural pigeons with their moult but also gets the late breds through it as well. I'm giving it a whirl at this present time so we will see what happens.
Guest Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 If you give the birds a good quantity of garlic in their drinker for a few days you should see a dramatic drop of feathers.
stevebelbin Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Cant see the point in trying to speed up the moult. Just shut them in, leave them in peace and feed them a good moulting mix, with a bit of linseed added etc. Simple ;D

T_T Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Hi Bruno, Didn't know there was different types of Buttermilk, this is just one I bought off the shelf in Tesco's at 49p a carton. Two cartons make a pint and I mixed, as instructed, two cartons with 3ltrs of water.
THE FIFER Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 give conditioning seed, helps them moult, also, hormoform helps the new feathers /
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 feeding any small seeds helps
Guest Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 feeding any small seeds helps Yes it would.Lots of feed compannies do special moulting mixes too and of course some people swear by just plain barley.
jimmy white Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 a natural moult is best ,, plenty baths as this induces the moult and helps in a good moult , a touch of linseed, and a good mix high in protein
