Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 you cant you have to wait for about a week, then you can by using water, soaked peas and beans and finche/budgie egg food(i done it in 2005,tamest pigeon ever ;D ;D)

pigeonpete Posted December 16, 2006 Author Report Posted December 16, 2006 cheers for that pecked hen!! will be worse that having a baby!! lol
birdman55678 Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Wow is that a lot of work, be better off leaving it with the parents until weaned, in my opinion anyway... Ed
Guest shadow Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Leave it to its parents they will rear it better than you can
Keepsmilingqueen Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 i think it best left to the parents, fair enough if parental rearing is unavailable, but to take a youngster away from its parents just becouse you facy hand rearing a baby is in my oppinion a bit unfair, its not like pigeons make good house pets. sure they perch on your shoulder but they dont talk and they s**t all over the carpet
Peckedhen Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 If he is determined to hand feed, I think that he should give the squab at least the first week, if not 10 days with it's parents. It would then stand a much better chance of survival and will still become very tame.

Guest CS Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Leave it to parents,,,raise youngsters better
kev01293 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 i wouldnt take a youngster away from the parents until its at least 12-14 days or even older kev :-/
pigeonscout Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 If he is not willing to do what is best for the young birds i.e. leave it with parents until it is able to feed itself then he is not the sort of person I would be giving a bird to. Why would anyone want to go to all that trouble to rare a bird when its parents are there to give it more than he could ever do? Why would you even think about giving a bird to someone knowing it is not going to get a good start in life and may even die. It is so easy to tame young birds. Not one of my young birds will fear me 5 days after they are weaned and even before they can fly they will run to me when I enter the loft. Don't do what your friend wants do what is best for the bird keep it in the nest.

Guest shadow Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 You have had some very good advise to leave with its parents until it is feeding itself then let your friend take it on

kev01293 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 hi pete pigeonscout has said exactely what i was thinking, leave the baby with its parents kev :-/
jimmy white Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 better left with parents untill ready for weaning ,, its the easiest thing in the world to tame ybs ,and can actualy be good fun and,,,they remember this the rest of their lives, they often make better birds as they go thrugh less stress than wild pigeons
