Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I'm sorry but what you are inferring here is nonsense. Where is the money to be had in completely shutting down your industry and getting your products banned in every country in the world ?

Guest shadow Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 the fishing industry-some blokes took the government de- commissioning scheme and became millionaires overnight-their crews got a p45 what has that got to do with watching your lifetimes work go up in flames.
Roland Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 what has that got to do with watching your lifetimes work go up in flames. I mm rural Shaddow, and from my post I'd thought that that was obvious! It is best way forward to start anew.... and this is the best time for it to go up in flames as you say! Another life line for farmers that can't - don't need to - make ends meet. Paid too much for digging ditches and growing hedges - though that is a boon - and getting paid for just the crops showing. New ventures around the corner paid for via Tax Payers money as we again fork out to bale out those that see the light and smell the coffee. There is enough food grown - and distroyed - to feed 20 billion people, and there is only 6 & 1/2 billion in the world.... and we don't need live stock nor arable farms, so we will fund yet again more Farmers to start new ventures.
Roland Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 Golly just look at all the industries ythat have had to see all their hard work go up for nothing! Boot and shoe, Steel works, Car workers etc. and as that evil one said' If you can't make you buisness pay, pack up and find something that will pay' ... Farmers excepted of of course'! O dear ole Maggie. So don't anyone spout cobblers about all their hard work. That is like the 'Archers' and every day occurrance. Just seems that we have to bale out those that have a bob or two...

Back garden fancier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 More likely to be a disgruntled worker at the research place? Or a plot to bring the government down? Just see if it goes away then springs up again!
Roland Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 More likely to be a disgruntled worker at the research place? Or a plot to bring the government down? Just see if it goes away then springs up again! Or passed out the back door for cash ... like the first lot seemed to be.... then excused like.... but where there is money there are unscruplous crooks, and as the good book says 'The love of money is the root of all evil'
Roland Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 Officials are trying to trace how the latest outbreak of foot and mouth occurred as initial tests indicated the strain of the virus was the same as the one which infected two herds last month. Chief veterinary officer Debby Reynolds said the strain infecting cattle near Egham, Surrey, was "generally" the same as the one which caused the August outbreak near Pirbright, some 10 miles away. SUPRISE SURPRISE ...!
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Some fairly outrageous allegations being made here, bordering on 'the libel zone' but most defo well inside 'the crazies zone'. Conspiracy theory : government lab and Private company scientists collaborating to spread F&M to bankroll farmers and bankrupt the country. Book & Movie to follow, only they will have a virus in them that will corrupt the print sos you can't read it, and the film will have auto-suggestion message to go out and put milk back into cows - only there won't be none, so they'll be wild eyed folks running around the country with a pail a milk in one hand and a three legged stool in the other looking for cows - fighting with police trying to get into farms that are all closed off. Then we'll have it on TV and Farmer Larkin'll be able to say 'perfick'. What a load of tosh.

Where is the money to be had in completely shutting down your industry and getting your products banned in every country in the world ? It is a fact that the compensation value paid out during the last outbreak was more than these guys could have reasonably expected on the open market and it is also a fact there was some "jiggery pokery". But I have no doubt these cases were very much the minority, many farmers would be heart broken to see their animals go in such a manner.
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 wonder what would happen if the goverment compensated us pigeon fanciers for catching para how many of US would vaccinate them then ;D ;D
Ronnie Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 wonder what would happen if the goverment compensated us pigeon fanciers for catching para how many of US would vaccinate them then ;D ;D I wonder how many actually vacinate now
Roland Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 It is a fact that the compensation value paid out during the last outbreak was more than these guys could have reasonably expected on the open market and it is also a fact there was some "jiggery pokery". But I have no doubt these cases were very much the minority, many farmers would be heart broken to see their animals go in such a manner. About right that I'd believe but ... And EVERYONE, even workers have been devastated when buisnesses / company's / concerns have failed, especialy after many years of striving to may hings work or continue to pay. But most live stock is born to be slaughtered, and most are sold 2/3/4 times before that, so let's not shed a tear and believe that there is any such bond between them and the owners. That would indeed in it's self be very sacrimental and silly in the first place... for they would never sll on!
andrew Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 **Latest** Positive test results for Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) have now been confirmed at the site where it was decided that cattle should be slaughtered on suspicion earlier today. The site is within the existing Egham Protection Zone in Surrey and this becomes the seventh Infected Premises since 3rd August this year. Minor changes are being made to the Protection Zone (PZ) and Surveillance Zone (SZ) in the area. It remains essential for animal keepers to practice the highest standards of biosecurity, remain vigilant for disease and report any suspicions immediately. Livestock owners should examine their livestock twice a day.
Guest pigeon_lad Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 thanx for the update mate i have friends in the effected area

andrew Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Following negative laboratory results, the two Temporary Control Zones in the Hampshire area have now lifted. The Foot and Mouth Disease situation is that there are currently 7 Infected Premises.

Roland Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 It will be spreaded, no doubt about that. Just look at the price supermarkets are buying in at. Never mind that owners fall in love with their crictars, they are sold on a merry go round and they seldom see them to get to love them. Feed them etc. Then look at how long all the important things that have to be done over the next few months.... and no costs refunds, or extra monies to be had.... Golly it will be a blessing for most again. Seems that the goverment are resigned that they can't lower theprice, and it is a lot more than Tesco's and co will give them and that's for sure.
Back garden fancier Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Said in my post on the 13th it would spread, looks like it has!
andrew Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 A 3km Temporary Control Zone has today been put around a premises near Maidenhead, Berkshire within the existing surveillance zone. This is a precautionary measure following a veterinary assessment of clinical signs. Laboratory tests are ongoing. It remains essential for animal keepers to practice the highest standards of biosecurity, remain vigilant for disease and report any suspicions immediately. Cattle owners should examine their livestock twice a day.
