Iqbal Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Hi All, Thank you to all those who responded to my previous question. Now to my next question: I have two logans about 6-8 weeks old. How much should I feed them? Is two desert spoons 2 times a day enough. What is the feeding technique? Should I take away the feed after 10 minutes? Many thanks

Wiley Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 when racing them i always find 50/50 adequate
Iqbal Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 Wiley and Westy, When should I start giving them an ounce per bird per day? After how many weeks? When are they classified as being fully grown? Cheers
Wiley Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 an ounce isnt adequate enough mate,if your going to feed them this way an ounce and a quatre is what a pigeon reqires a day.My feeding changes once they feathers under there wings are fully developed. The feeding changes i ill update later
jimmy white Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 protein feeding when they are growing , but still would only feed them once a day , just enough, that as soon as they become disinterested stop their not really fully developed untill their two years old but will successfully race to certain distances as ybs and yearlings

westy Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Wiley and Westy, When should I start giving them an ounce per bird per day? After how many weeks? When are they classified as being fully grown? Cheers when there flying around the loft for about 1 hr.
pigeonscout Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Feed them a bit at a time until they start to leave the barley then stop. A big bird needs more than a wee bird and a bird that is flying needs more than one sitting in the loft. When they starts to leave the seeds they dont like they have had enough.
Guest MBpigeonguy Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 specking off feeding pigeons, i have good pigeons for breeding this spring, i give them food and leave it in the loft all the time for them to eat, its never finished, if the corn run out i put in more corn, if it looks like there is no more weat i put in more weat, i think im making a big mistake right there!! advise pleeeez what am i doing wrong?
mobster Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 give them as much as they want and when they are flying shift them to 1 tablespoon per bird
edthekid Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 i leave a full hopper of beans all the time...................untill there ready to fly out
Guest shadow Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 i leave a full hopper of beans all the time...................untill there ready to fly out birds never over feed on hopper beans as they are not keen on them compared with other feed
BLUESTORM Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Hi, I give my young birds as much as they want high on beans, When they are flying well i govern the food so they trap well when they land, food being a great trapping aid no more waiting about for young birds to trap into the loft.
jimmy white Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 hopper fed birds eat what they need and no more,, pigeons rationed will gorge themselves when ever they get the chance, but hopper fed birds must be tamed from the youngster stage , called in with a tit bit
mealyman Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 feed young birds as much as they want after weaning when going to perch 1 tablespoon morning 1tablespon evening
chickadee Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 we feed our birds once a day, we put seed in the feeder in the loft and the ones that go outside the loft get seed at the feeding station in the garden which they share with the hens and are constantly in and out the loft all day feeding their young, the feeders are always empty next day in the loft.
madmaxlofts Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 i like to leave the food in for an hour in the morning and tea time when there only young once there out flying then they get 2 oz per bird ish 1oz in the morning and 1oz on night
chickadee Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Hi, I am fairly new to the pigeon world and would like to ask a question, is peanuts good for pigeons? I normaly give them a mixture of cut corn, wheat, conditioning seed and some young bird mix, but if you give them peanuts they'll do anything for you. some of them have started flying down to the back door as i come out in the morning looking for some peanuts.
