Guest bristolkev Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 does anybody know if R.O water (reverse osmosis) would have any benefit if given to the birds instead of tap water? people with salt water marine fish tanks have to use this water because it`s been purified of nitrate`s.....phosphates and chlorine and lots of other impurities.
kaybee Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 this system of water purification removes 99.9% of impurities and when given to the birds over a long period will reduce the need for medications
Fair Play Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Will the birds have a dodgy immune system as the only way to fight infection is to be exposed to it and build up an immunity
thunderboult Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 how many pigeons go down for a drink on way home from a race in rivers/ponds or just puddles don't seem to harm them ,i often see my birds drinking rain water to me i think tap water's ok

Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Seems that it will take 'salts' like chlorine out but not microbes, needs UV treatment for that too? Can understand need for this for an aquarium but is it really needed for ordinary household drinking water?
thunderboult Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 mine get it fresh from the tap no matter what's going init don't seem to harm em
chickadee Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Will the birds have a dodgy immune system as the only way to fight infection is to be exposed to it and build up an immunity Yes I would tend tae agree with you.

DOVEScot Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Birds have been surviving for thousands of years on all types of water and so have we, as long as it's not contaminated then it safe We have lead pipes in the cottage and the guy two doors away has stayed in the house man and boy, he's in his 80's and would put a lot to shame. So much for lead pipes being bad for you Although agree if adding suppliments or medicines then use declorinated or bottled water
