does anybody know if R.O water (reverse osmosis) would have any benefit if given to the birds instead of tap water? people with salt water marine fish tanks have to use this water because it`s been purified of nitrate`s.....phosphates and chlorine and lots of other impurities.

this system of water purification removes 99.9% of impurities and when given to the birds over a long period will reduce the need for medications

Mine will try and drink rain water too and maybe it does no harm, but when the drugs compannies tell u that chlorine affects the effectiveness of their drugs it does make you wonder what effect tap water has on the birds,so its always worth remembering to dechlorinate your tap water before adding any medications or supplements to it :)

Seems that it will take 'salts' like chlorine out but not microbes, needs UV treatment for that too?  Can understand need for this for an aquarium but is it really needed for ordinary household drinking water?

Birds have been surviving for thousands of years on all types of water and so have we, as long as it's not contaminated then it safe

We have lead pipes in the cottage and the guy two doors away has stayed in the house man and boy, he's in his 80's and would put a lot to shame. So much for lead pipes being bad for you

Although agree if adding suppliments or medicines then use declorinated or bottled water
