Guest TAMMY_1 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 looking at prices of birds, so decided to put a small poll up
Guest WINGS 04 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 tammy i have got birds that i would not let go for less than a £1000 but it is up to the ppl that are bying them as to what they want to pay
Guest j.bamling Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Tammy in my opinion some birds are over priced for the birds they are selling but but a bird is only worth what another fancier is willing to pay --I have paid £500 for birds and a lot more than that at times but i was prepared to pay that for the bird whether it was worth £500 is another question but i was willing to pay it !!

Guest j.bamling Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 WHAT DID THE BIRDS BREED YOU THAT YOU PAID 500 BUCKS FOR bred winners but ive had a lot better breeders what cost a lot cheaper i bought the sire of our combine winner for £150 bred winners for fun fed toppers and a combine winner from 400 miles !!! like i said before they are only worth what people are willing to pay !!
Ronnie Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 The thing is there's no gaurantee's so you pay your money and take your chance . I think it all boils down to how much of a gambler the individual is. Unless your buying a pedigree to sell off, then its another story all together.
Guest Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I haven't voted in the poll. Nothing there really fits in with my thoughts on the subject. If you pay £1000 for a pigeon you need two things: (1) a spare £1000 (2) a belief that the money is well spent on this bird. You must believe it is what you need to give your loft an edge. I think its (2) that really decides the bird's value. And if (2) is in your head, you'll do your damndess to get (1). A pigeon's value is what you believe it to be. Bit like beauty ... your eyes only. ;D

Totally agree the man has not been born what can say with 100% that the bird will breed winners it is a game of chance and Luck plays a big part aswell its whether you are willing to part with the money but still no guarantee

Guest Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 A bird is worth whatever you can get some idiot to give you for it, sad but true!.Known lots of fanciers pay a fortune, not seen any of their results improve though!.I think personally the biggest key to success is your own loft management skills ie motivation [of both fancier and birds],health etc, more important than any fancy bit of paper. No one is ever going to sell you one of their best birds anyway so how can a bird be worth £5oo or more?
homer Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 imo a pigeon is a pigeon is a pigeon ! meaning, no matter what u think, a pigeon is only worth about 10 quid ! i dont care if its a racer from loui massarella or a show bird from doug mclary, pigeons (god bless em) breed as sweet as a nut so how the hell can they be worth hundreds of pounds ??

jimmy white Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 my opinion is management makes the pigeon,,,,, no amount of money will buy the management
madmaxlofts Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 i think you get what you pay 10 pound pigeons will always be 10 pound pigeons if you want to do well you want 1 family from 1 respectible loft and the golden pigeons to progress
Ian McKay Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 A bird is only worth what you want to pay for it. I think auctions are dangerous for the inexperianced I would pay if it was worth it. Fools and their money are easily parted to a professional salesman
madmaxlofts Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 my opinion is management makes the pigeon,,,,, no amount of money will buy the management i agree with this also champions can do nothing under the wrong managment but youve got to have the right pigrons in the 1st place
Guest Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Don't see that pigeons are any different or the people that are prepared to pay big prices for them. Call them fools if you wish, but then you'd need to include all the other folk including those that buy and sell companies ... its called doing business : folk with something to sell, and folk willing to buy..
red1chq3 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I really think that honesty , particularly from the seller, wether it be at an auction or from a individual plays a bit part in the true value of a bird. there are too many actions today, even from the big names, are just full of stock or racers that are just surplus to requirements, again honesty. I mean I have paid some silly money at times for birds, but when I look back the best birds I ever had, with some very good results, have been gifted or obtained at a much reduced price from true FRIENDS
jimmy white Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 i agree with this also champions can do nothing under the wrong managment but youve got to have the right pigrons in the 1st place yes i do agree max, problem being,,, management -pigeon,,,,,,,pigeon-management , i think both are needed ,, but the management will tell you whether you have a good one or not,,, will explain by example ,, 16 birds bought from top class fancier ,between two of us , i got the nestmatesof the ones he had ,,,he done nothing , blamed mr ,,x for sending rubbish birds , yet i formed a team that "cleared the boards" all were the same price ??
THE FIFER Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 a fellow club mate of mine had a bird called the £5 cock a great racer never off the sheet, and the name came from what he paid for it, £5, it also bred a few good uns as well,
jimmy white Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 how many fanciers go to blackpool,,DEFINATELY not buying any this time ;D ;D then you see them with a box ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,fanciers cant resist it [done it myself ;D],,, and if it makes them happy good on them ,,, the price of a pigeon is worth to the buyer what he pays for it ;D ;D ;D at least for a while you can dream youve got the best breeder etc ,, ;D true ,,and for the inexperienced , makes them keener ,look after them better ,and feel better ,,,,,,,,but then there comes a time ;D ;D ;D you learn ,,but youve paid for your learning ;D ;D ;D
