883girl Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I have been told that I should put a couple of fantails in with my White Logans, not for breeding but to help get the logans back to the loft once my little squeakers are able to fly out. Is it a good idea or not? Think the principle is i let the fantails out in the garden and that encourages the Logans to come back?

Is it a good idea or not? Think the principle is i let the fantails out in the garden and that encourages the Logans to come back? let ur fantails out first so they have their fly around and once they come down on the loft let ur youngsters out with them, yes i would put them in the loft beside the youngsters to let them get used to them, i always have a couple of fantails in the youngbird loft, they learn the youngsters to eat etc, and have even saw them feed the youngsters.
Roland Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Yes Fantail look great and will rear y/b's etc. but they are a very hardy bird and are often full of stuff that will and does knock racers side ways. Even treated the same. Make sure they have a GOOD and Acruact bill of healthy from a responcible and respectable sauce before you even let them near your birds....
Guest Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I'm not sure that you really need fantails. Concentrate on getting control of the parent Logans before they go to nest .. make sure they come to you when you call them. Start by making a fuss and calling them every time you feed them, they'll get use to that and associate it with food, so they will soon come looking [for food] when called. We all have to do this training with the every new generation. You will find that it always easier when you have previous generation(s) there already trained.

Aye but fantails are really easy to train and good for droppers, so get a couple of pairs and enjoy, aswell as using them for sitters to increase your Logan stock for your release business We looked at it but too many pitfalls for us but some make a good business out of it, good luck
