Sajfos Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 After reading one of the "Champions of the World" Books recently , I have been considering the use of a Flashing Orange Light as described therein to call My 2008 Young Birds into the Loft from exercise, training , etc ...have any Forum Members tried anything like this ? Conclusions , opinions or better constructive comment would be appreciated ? Steve..
883girl Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 The only flashing orange light i know is the one i drive through every time at the traffic lights. LOL ;D ;D
Guest dogeon Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 yes ive tried it with flashing blue lights and orange not with much success as in the summer when the sun is bright the lights arn't as bright, i found that using a door bell works really well
GREENGRASS Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 steve the only time i have seen the flashing orange lights used was to keep the hawks away.

I was a bird training show where the guy explained and showed how to train all types of birds, including pigeons, I cannot remember the colours of discs on the boards he used, but as soon as he displayed them he got certain pigeons in by the colour displayed He trained them to come and get fed as soon as they seen the colour they associated with feeding time, he let the audience pick the colours randomly, over the course of time we were there he was spot on every time, :-/ :-/ :-/

Steve.. pigeons will get used to most anything that ass. with feeding time,, a bell , a rattle of a tin of grub, a whistle even just your own voice , so really the choice would be yours , personally i have never tried the flashing lights , but would prefer the birds being used to my own voice as this can be used to calm the birds inside the loft providing they have confidence in my voice making them tamer therefore less stressfull
paddymac Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Agree totally Jimmy. everything seems to be going new age :-/. Nothing beats the rattle of the corn tin or the sound of the whistle.
ALF Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 WAS TRAINING 47 YOUNG BIRDS AT THE START OF THE SEASON AND EVERY TOSS WHEN THEY ALL LANDED TOGETHER I COULD GET THE LOT IN THROUGH THE TRAP IN UNDER 10 SECS 2nd Y/B RACE THIS YEAR TAMMY WAS WAITING ON MY BIRDS WITH ME 2 CAME UP THE PARK RACING 1 ANOTHER AND WERE IN THE TRAP WITHIN A SECOND OR 2 OF LANDING ;) GET THEM USED TO A SYSTEM AND THEY WILL TRAP NO PROBLEM ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Chatrace Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 In the 100 member cub in Florida, called Unit 10 they have lights of all colors ,bell Whistles you name it they have it as there are like 90 lofts all in one housing unit. the birds come to there light and noise as the mostly return in a large group even though they were released with other birds. You know when they hit the short end of the unit as it sounds and starts to look like a police raid, lol
DOVEScot Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Agree totally Jimmy. everything seems to be going new age :-/. Nothing beats the rattle of the corn tin or the sound of the whistle. True, just pointing out that birds can be trained to more than the shake of a tin ;D
Sajfos Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 Thanks for the great answers.. Reason Im looking for something other than the whistle is , No-one to call the Birds in from training , I could educate them to the light & leave it running whilst I am down the road ....cant wake the neighbours . Any more suggestions ? Steve..
