DOVEScot Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 We give both red and black minerals, can you mix these or are they best kept seperate? If mixing is there a best proportion of mix?

If mixing is there a best proportion of mix? I mix my red and blak minerals only because I have limited space in my cupboard in the loft. They are mixed 50/50

Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Vert surprised you mix minerals and grit I done that once aswell but it didnt make any difference as they never ate it
Adam Gray Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Best to keep them seperate, they have a different content and you will notice that the pigeons will show a preference based on their requirements. Mine have always shown a preference for the red minerals when rearing ! Experiment and see how your pigeons react !

They gorge on the black but leave the red, want to mix what I have and see what happens, but not if advised not to mix them :-/
Adam Gray Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 It will not kill them if you mix it ! Try it with small amounts first !
Back garden fancier Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 The birds seem to eat more black minerals when feeding youngsters, but leave it alone and eat red at all other times. Thats why I don't mix it, they have a choice then.
