Guest Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 The partnership Mencke-Haelterman (Hilaire Mencke and Paul Haelterman) was formed late 1950's. Hilaire Mencke was Pauls Uncle. The four base pigeons of this wonderful loft were (1) KORTE 1957 a Cheq cock from the loft of Andre Breynaert, Onkerzele a school teacher who excelled on the middle distances - 150 - 300 miles, he was a master fancier and if ever he put his pigeons to longer distances he was a difficult man to beat. I believe the origin of his birds was Byrone. (2) PAULA 1960 a Blue W/F hen. She was direct from the Super loft Paul Santens, Ordenaarde (hence her name). She was a daughter of the best pigeon of Santens at that time VOORUIT (Which means in front or ahead) The origin of the Santens loft was Commines. (3) FACTUER 1959 (which means Postman) a Dark Chequer cock from the loft of Valare Desmet/Mathy's Knokere. Paul was doing a loft report on this Champion loft in early December and the hen of the World famous KLAREN had somehow got in with the breeding cocks , His son Roger had not noticed and when Paul was looking to the breeders he noticed her with KLAREN. He took her in his hand and felt that she must lay an egg that evening. So he said to Valare may I call this evening and take the egg for my work, making a loft report. He said yes, Paul called later that day took the egg home and reared the youngster under a pair of pigeons he had together at that time. I don't have to tell you the origin of this World famous loft. (4) NOLFKE 1960 a smokey blue hen the late youngster from the famous Montauban of Omer Nolf from Bissegem the MONTAUBAN had won the 1st National from Montauban that year, he was of Stichelbaut origin. The KORTE x PAULA bred in 1964 the World famous JONGE KORTE a Blue Chequer W/F cock that won £12,500 during his racing career (a fantastic sum of money for that time). Many lofts, including my own owe their success's to the family Haelterman and his incredible knowledge with pigeons. I will give you more infomation when I have time. But some words of wisdom. You do not need a strain you need a good cock and a good hen not a paper pedigree that say's full brother or sister to this or that and pure (What is pure)

jakjak Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I believe there was a guy called Mr.White in early 90's and was extremely successful in the London North road. He finished in mid 90's and had a sale in Dudley. i went and bought 6.........couldnt do nothing with them........ he started back up 2 years later and bought them back.......lucky for him I still had them they were 'out and out' sprinters

But it is always fantastic I think to read the anecdotes and views of top fanciers Frank would love to see you write more often on here if posible. I realise sometimes it can be more hassle than the worth when you get people having a crack when you are only trying to help (and I know many reading this will think i stir up controversyi'm a fine one talking about others!) But in my book you are one of the greatest fanciers in the last 50 years (my life time) and it would be fantastic if you posted more regularly your thoughts , anecdotes, tips even (that would be fantastic!). Is it still possible to get your vid with the throat theory in? Strangely it is one of those I have never got hold of. Thanks Alan
swilcox Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 Sapper, they will Pau, in fact i use the blood of Champion Joner to ensure i send some birds each year with enough basic speed to fly it on the day. This Joner, paired to g-dtr of Filmstar bred the WOESRC Saintes winner 400miles 11 hour on the wing and 15 minutes in front of the next pigeon with 1600b in the race. He was very fresh so even if it had been another 150miles, nowt would have caught him. Stuart
