'just starting up' hoaxes?

I'v decided to have a go at racing pigeons and never expected to be offered free birds, but I was! I didn't ask, some kind people however took time to PM me and offer me help.

 

I think it's a shame if people are practically scamming people out of pigeons because people may then be reluctant to help genuine new comers and to be offered some birds to start up with is such a great help! Pigeons are expensive with Amtrak ontop.

in ur case tariq its different ,theres guys out there just looking to scam some birds, then sell them on ..so be careful who u order birds off as well, best contact one of us on here about stuff, just to be safe...paul

Personally I get fed up of readers writing "just starting up " have supplied several fanciers in the past only to find out that they had been flying for years and used it as a gimmick at this time of year to get cheap or birds for nothing think it is despicable will never do it again. ??) ??) ??)

 

i can understand where you are coming from, but some of us are genuine and are greatful for all that the people on this site do.  I guess maybe we need to put some checks in place, just not sure how

i agree with paul on this one i was lucky enough to get some birds from north wales novice and had no problems with supplying any details that were needed, i started in 2001 got a team together, but in 2002 my daughter died my "breeders" are/were old enough to have flown in noahs widowhood team i do not work because of my daughters death[and housebound mother] but was determined to race next year, by the time i had joined the local club refitted my loft etc i had bugger all left to obtain birds with [yes i know that "route one" states go to a local fancier but if that guy is racing against you next year you have no/zero/nada chance of getting any birds]what else can you do but reach out [it might not be pleasent viewing for some but everyone starts somewhere]regardless of income or lack of it EVERYONE should be allowed to race their birds [from whatever source] sorry if i have started a "war" over this but because someone asks about free birds does make that person a "ponce" or a conman

I see, I hadn't realise that some people would be looking to sell them on aswell  :-/

 

I would imagine that probably if a new person was interrogated a little or asked to provide some pictures of their loft etc (though I appreciate not everyone has easy access to a camera) then maybe a subtle clue may arise to suggest that the person wasn't indeed genuine.

 

Of course, its probably easy to become too cautious and attempting to catch a genuine new person out is not great for them! I know I wouldn't like it...

obviously some of you experienced people have been duped by someone on here so either put checks in place or dont offer these quality birds for free..i am new but if your that concerned about helping others out that are genuinely trying to start out dont offer free so called quality birds.. let them pay..even if only a token payment to the site..

most genuine pigeon people would fall over themselves to help a new guy get started but for an experienced flyer to pull a stunt like this makes me sick !

The high majority of people on hear are genuine and willing to help in their own way what ever way they can.

It is the minority that spoil it all the time, the site wouldn't last the test of time if it was the opposite way round.

Let's face it COXY was a verteran of the site, so it is not just new members we have to watch, the sad thing is COXY is a prolific scammer and will do anything to slip under the radar on every site and the classifieds to line his pockets. HE IS STILL AT IT, LOGGING ON JUST THE OTHER DAY. HE HAS BEEN CLOCKED ON EBAY. HE EMAILED A MEMBER THE OTHER DAY SUPPLYING HIS WARES AGAIN.

 

I am sorry if I ask newbes when they log on the simple question "Hi where are you from" it's amazing the amount that don't answer and never log on again. It leaves me wondering why

 

I even got stick from members when I questioned daveb who built a £7000,00 loft and left no money to buy birds on his first post. NEVER TO BE HEARD OF AGAIN ON THE SITE :-/

 

Never the less genuine new members are welcome, I was one at one time  ;D ;D ;D

well hello everyone ...im a new starter ...i hope and know the godfather will check this out ..i am going to cabra club tomorrow night in dublin to get accepted ....if anyone knows anyone in the club get them to check it out ...listen i only asked for a hand if your not willing to help thats far enough ...just thought you should be encouraging young people to the sport but i see why they dont bother as its too hard for them ....ill be on here all the time check that out aswell ... thanks gangster for the help ..... other help still appreciated ...plus anyone will be welcome to see my loft and see i have 7 pigeons so far ...thank you for your time ....

Newbes seem to be missing the point, it's not hard in the sense they will get all the help they can from other fanciers, whether it is advise or birds. But why not help us in return by supplying some basic info about yourselfs.

First if you want birds then do you have a loft to keep them in.

Do stay near any member so you can pick them up or they can drop them into you to save on amtrak.

Loads of ways members can help but as new members you seem to be just as wary of us as we are of you :-/

well ganster that is not a problem ... anybody off here will be welcomed into my loft ...i already said i was from dublin ireland ... i live near the phoenix park ..if anyone lives near there could you let us know to verify it ...or even anyone on the club i intend to join tomorrow .... thanks for the help even its from only 2 to 3 members ...i know one thing that young lads will always benefit from me when im up and running ...what comes around goes around ... really appreciate it all but im as genuine as there is im afraid .... but i understand you will get mean and weird people !!!! thanks all ...

cheers paul it will be tough..ive a lovely loft .. maybe ill get some nice pictures on if i get rest off loft finished not far from there ...started to get some stock and i have 7 so far ... they nice birds ...just need to get more ....it can be more difficult than i thought mate but thats life we battle on !!!!!!!!!!!!! just like all the welsh !!!!

Knowing gangater the way i do i can vouch that he knows the time of day and would not just dive in head first with the head down without asking a few pertinent questions to gaddo, nobody should have to give their lifestory just to get a few pigeons to get them up and running.

For every coxy there are 10,20 maybe more decent newbie's looking for a leg up, if i can help in any way gaddo just let me know mate if your good enough for gangster your good enough for me, i myself got started by asking for help on here so it would be nice to return the favour to someone else.

you had a good idea earlier on pete when you were advertising a pair of birds for sale and you ended up giving them to the highest bidder instead of selling them,fanciers are more inclined to give birds free if they have maybe been offered money to purchase them but it does make you wary of folk who come on and ask for free birds with their first post

 

yes im full of good ideas tammy, aarden had them for free, along with 6 more.

think it cost him more money in fuel trying to find my house ;D

ask santa for a tom tom aarden mate

i agree with most of ur post celtic but i dont think anyone is asking for a life history of the new starter, just some kind of info, remember these fanciers who offer free birds are doing it out of the goodness of their heart. ,i think anyone genuine wouldnt mind as he/she will be getting birds on the cheap/free.

and im sure if they think about it...they would be wary of someone they dont know...i think its human nature .

ive offered help and will continue to do so...but ill do it with caution...id rather my help go to someone who needs it then someone who,s using it for a scam.

im sure gladdo for one will get lots of help...im helping a new starter this week.

mine have tom tom, just need to get the english version, they obviously havent mastered chinese yet ;D ;D
