I've tried the sand,always feels abit cold to me for the birds to walk on,looks good though and is fine till it gets damp then it is totally hopeless as it won't dry and is an ideal host for cocci.

Shavings are hopeless as they just blow about

I've used easi bed for the last 4 years and stuck with that as it suits me,doesn't blow about,is nice and warm and dry,keeps their feet nice,I still pick all the droppings off the top every day though

 

How much is that for what size of bag? and how long does it last you?

It's marketed for horses so any equine/farm/agricultural merchants should stock it,its about £5.25 a bale

I have 2 lofts,both about 18 foot by 9 and I use roughly a quarter of a bale in each loft a week,basically just replacing what I have taken out during the week cleaning out.You would need about 3 bales down in each loft to get it started,there is a product called snowflake wood chip [not snow flake shavings] which is similar if you can't get easi bed

"J Bamling". Your loft is a credit to you, with those petron boxes etc. Looks terrific & many of us here I suspect, would love to have such a set up, (Oh to dream about such things).

 

"Deep litter" I have tried to make it work in my lofts, a couple of times over the years, (to much dust for me) & being an asthmatic etc does not help my case, but I know of some very good flyers that have it in their lofts, & fly top pigeons on their day. so it definately can work in most climates, under the right conditions.

I'm a big fan of Easibed. This in the pic has been down for 1 month now and wont get changed till after pairing/rearing. In the past I've cleaning out twice a day, tried kiln dried sand (try saying that quick 5 times ;D) but nothing touches Easibed by a long chalk, lastly but by no means least the pigeons like it!

Tony -- watch when racing that the easybed does not get up the nostrils I have seen first hand by 1 of the best lofts in the uk sitting taking out the little splinters of wood from the nostrils they get them when they are doing the flicking with there beak like chickens do ? & if they are not breathing ok they will not win

My father also had this down a couple of years ago and we had to do the same
