Maybe the selling of pigeons should be posted via a mod or the webmaster after approval. If the guidelines haven't been met its trashed.

;D ;D ;D i think if we had less work load [with the fanciers help :)] we could possibly do this, but not sure all members would agree :)   to be quite honest if fanciers would adhere to weby,s post above ,,we would have no bother ,,,,but anyone having bother report it to mods or [was going to say rockers ;D] webmaster  :)

But you know that will not happen Jimmy unless you police sales, then a lot of people will still post birds, plus you are forgetting this is a pigeon site not just for racing, it is for all fanciers, Ma Wee Chickadee widnae know a good racer from bad one, I could ootrun half of her pigeons :)

So what compulsory information would you like to see from anyone advertising birds on here I think that anyone selling any birds should definately have to put the name they fly under and where they are from

Flying name and location should be sufficient Rose

Having worked in America, you have a different lifestyle all together, While in pheonix we thought nothing about driving hundreds of miles to get something or see someone or do something on straight roads as far as the eye can see, you can jump on an internal flight with your dog or cat and have it in the seat next to you, can catch a red eye for 10 bucks and travel the length of europe to look at other pigeons if you want

UPS America would be like us having Amtrak Europe $30 or £15 any where delivered or your money back if contract not fulfilled plus compensation, This I know because I had an account with UPS Europe, unfortunately don't carry pigeons like their American counterparts do

Uk is different you leave inverness, you travel down a major road call the A9 that is one lane the most of the way, 60mph max if your not stuck behind a tractor or a Sunday driver, wait two hours to get across the forth road bridge, hit road work on the M8, then road works on the M74, then again on the M6. to cap it all you are stuck at Manchester then Birmingham then the biggest car park in Europe the M25 for another zillion hours

So instead of 20 hours of driving 600 miles you take a chance and buy in new stock from a guy in london by amtrak and the only way you can highlight your delight or disapointment is on sites like these :-/

Plus I forgot about deception arter travelling all these miles, aint that right Pigeonpete

The name of this site 'Pigeonbasics' I would have thought attracts many new starters. I feel this site should have some obligation in protecting these new starters the best it can. One bad experience from the outset and the sport could lose them forever.

Exactly, it's the same in any sport, organisation or forum

I used to coach judo and spent as much time on begginers as black belts or champions, because that we snotty nosed beginner could be a world champion someday, ended up with umteen scottish and two british champions in my club

Imagine if I put him up against one of ma wee growlers, high chance he would never be seen again

How about this for the ultimate criteria for buying and selling birds,Youngsters only to be sold off pigeons that have bred winners the previous season, old birds to be sold only if they have bred winners  the previous season. If you are buying youngsters only buy off pairs that have bred winners, and if you are buying old birds for stock only buy them if they have bred winners before.Wonder how many would be selling birds then.

Dustbins would be overflowing.

Probably cut the stray problem in half.

Back around 2000 in Uni days, we picked up on an item on legal reponsibility of websites hosting a buyer meets seller facility. The Site was e-bay and the issue was that it was hosting the sale of martial arts weapons which were illegal / banned in the UK. E-bay tried to wriggle out by saying it had no responsible for any items for sale on its Site - the law said different.

If members have concerns of possible misselling or misrepresentaton on this Site, then I go back to what I said before [my personal opinion] stop the 'For Sale' Board, and go back to special sales only, for Charity & Good Causes.

Good idea, another why not warn people of dodgy sellers and recommend good sellers

Unlike ebay selling pigeons on the site or any other is not illegal, guiding the members in the right direction is a matter of principle

a good point Dovescot, on the Amazon selling site the sellers have a rating as to their selling and they have comments added about their reliability so you know who can be trusted and who can't, different if you know the folk personally

This thread thread after reading gives impression that con men are rampant on this site ripping off potential buyers, surely this cannot be true, just how many bad experiences has there been say in the last twelve months,in commerce in all walks of life the maxim BUYER BEWARE must always apply you cannot be ageist with this it applies to all potential buyers, regardless of age or sex, legislation of any kind wont prevent it from happening, often the conman is a chamelon and will adapt his format to suit and dupe whatever is in vouge at that time, sadly its life, imperfect,I know just look around you,the onus is on both parties in any transaction do your own homework, make sure you receive what you pay for, half up front half on delv,or whatever is required there are many ways to stop you becoming another catch, its an imperfect world, but the responsibility must surely be left with the people involved in the transaction that its suitable to both parties,if in doubt for any reason then ask for advice from more senior fanciers.
