homer Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 will it hurt to have the stock pigeons flight on the grass ill have 4 birds coming soon and im building i flight for them till the loft is done will it hurt them to have the flight on the grass in me garden thanks may be a bit damp in the morninings and tough to clean up droppings. but the grass itself will not harm the birds.
darkknight Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 thanks its only a temp home for them but i dont want to turn the birds down as there good birds
Guest Silverwings Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 grass aint a good idea continuous droppings into the grass /soil is asking for trouble with bacterial infections etc better idea would be a raised mesh floor with trays to catch the droppings beneath much safer......ray
Roland Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Or till sorted, make sure that they can perch way up off the grass.
darkknight Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 well the flight is 6 x 4 or so and i can move it around but i dont want the birds to suffer so ill do what ever is best for them
Guest Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 My worry is that it doesn't sound very secure for the birds; flight sat on grass invites something to burrow under the mesh walls. Think I'd want it sat on a slabbed area, but can't think of anything to put on the slabs to keep them clean and which would stay dry in wet weather.
Guest Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 will it hurt to have the stock pigeons flight on the grass ill have 4 birds coming soon and im building i flight for them till the loft is done will it hurt them to have the flight on the grass in me garden thanks if i was u id build a floor in it wether it be wire or wot ever,as already stated mice/rats cats..can easily burrow under the flight. dont take the risk and secure the floor ...u wont be sorry then and regretting not putting a floor in....paul.
darkknight Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 i was thinking of a mesh floor ill be buying a roll of chicken wire so no prob in doing the floor as well
steve d Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 watch the foxes dont dig their way in mate they will do with no floor.
Lennut Tar Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 will it hurt to have the stock pigeons flight on the grass ill have 4 birds coming soon and im building i flight for them till the loft is done will it hurt them to have the flight on the grass in me garden thanks Not generally recommended if in a wet climate etc, concrete or raised galvanized steel floor/mesh better option in my view. Don't be afraid though, to give your birds now & again a tuft of grass from your garden, many of them will really enjoy it, & it's cheap. Enjoy
darkknight Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 thanks every one for your advice but it dont matter now im not building it the chicken wire i need plus wood is to pricey thanks again for all your help
