Guest j.bamling Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 As i stated a few months ago about the price of corn people should think more about using pellets for breeding i went to our local corn shop to find an extra £2.00 a bag had gone on again started £7.95 - £11.40 inside 8 month also versa laga £12.00 + a bag P40 Pellets £15.00 a bag / So we come out and went to our local Horse shop - Poultry Supream Breeding Pellets 25KG 18.5% Protein £7.00 a bag same price they were 2 years ago when we started using them So as i first stated it looks like the pigeon men who is being taken for a ride not the general public
Guest Paulo Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 As said before on the ETS thread ETS another nail in the coffin for pigeon racing, the corn prices are mad as well went to the dealers today and got my supplies for pairing the stock birds up:- 2 bags of bamfords breed and wean 1 bag of red band 1 bottle of gemphanax 1 bottle of coxoid 1 packet of canker tablets 1 tub of gem maxtrix 5 nest bowls as am a few short 2 bundles of baccy stalks Bill came to £100.00 Was expecting a lot because of the medication anyway but still a working mans sport eh I reckon if you calculated how much money you blew on corn, medication and fuel and clubs fees etc you'd never keep a pigeon again
ken Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 i was told the other day beans are £10 per bag 20kg [robbery]
Guest Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Well there is a way to combat rising costs - keep fewer pigeons. Demand falls , so does price.
Guest j.bamling Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 You are not catching on to what i am saying pigeon corn shops -- all prices going up by £££ Other shops horses ,dogs ect Mixed poultry corn £5.00 a bag same as it was last year Poultry breeding pellets £7.00 a bag same as it was 2 years ago thats what i am getting at it looks like it is just mainly the PIGEON side of things that is going up in Price !!!
hellsbellz Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Nah hen pellets have gone up in price too, its not just the pigeon corn
Guest Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 What makes you so sure that its the best of grain that's going into pellets?
Guest j.bamling Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 because it has all changed they have to go into the food chain
Guest j.bamling Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 there is also no antibiotics allowed in them either now
mark Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 they feed layers chickens pellets so some good must go into them as the eggs are for human comsumption, the best way to see if they are anygood is to try some on your pigeons, if you dont try you dont know.
Guest Paulo Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 dad keeps horses and he hasn't noticed an increase in the price of stuff as much as I have. Hen corn is high at the minute and is barley wheat etc the excuse that goes round is the chinese are buying vast amounts for biofuel, plus there was a bad harvest and the generally rising price of fuel that has an impact on everything. It will get worse as well with all the things we buy especially fuel and oil because china is consuming more and more raw materials, timber, steel etc. I reckon people bang on about climate change but the real problem is lack of resources and too many people in the world. I reckon the next fifty to 100 years will see a recession and then its a fact that whenever a global recession happens a war isn't far off. For example World War 2 happened after the great depression. Mind you after that rant getting back on pigeon topic I do feel you get ripped off if its for pigeons. I use gemphanax and fair play to Brian Wall its a great product and I wouldn't be without it but does it really cost £20 quid a bottle to produce and make a profit on it. I'm sure some of the firms and dealers could sell their product for a bit less and still make a decent profit. I think £12 - £15 quid would be a fairer price for gemphanax. To be fair its probably the corn dealers banging their bit on the product that are really raking it in.

Guest j.bamling Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 you dont see £2.00 + a bag going on top of the price of them pellets either like i have said before its just the pigeon men what are getting ripped off !!!

nigel holloway Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 i actually sell pigeon corn and layers pellets, the pellets were £5.50 for a twenty five kilo bag they are now £6.25. the price of corn has gone up a lot, especially versa laga. we actually now sell Gem pigeon corn from brian wall. the resting mix is £7.70, breeding is £9.35. we have a mark up of only £1 on each bag.everything has gone up even horse food.basically everything that has wheat barley or maize has gone up in price.we were told by the suppliers the reason was the bio fuel. corn being bought and exported for that reason.

Supply and demand, it's the way of the world, and it will never change :-/ We are all at it in some shape or form, some milk it to the limit :-/
Guest Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 There is surely something sadly wrong when edible grain is being bought up for fuel? It is bad enough that one half of the world is so wasteful that it throws away as much food as would feed the other half, but this latest biofuel development adds insult by allowing the world's basic foodstuffs to be bought on the open market for purely industrial use, and at same time pushing up foodstuff prices for the basics of life, for all of us
Guest karl adams Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 i was told corn went up because of the bad wether but versele laga is from abroad
madmaxlofts Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 whats worse they blame all the floods for the increase but i bet it doesnt go back down next yr when they do have a good harvest its a slippery slope to more people getting rid were they cant afford it
DOVEScot Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 There a good article in this weeks cage and aviary that explains it in some detail.
carlsberg Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 i go to bjf farm feeds there prices have incresed but still cheaper than other corn providers in my area . i have used there corn for 3@1/2 yrs and i wont change because it is good quality
jimmy white Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 ive said it many times b4 ,,, the grain goes up when its a" bad harvest" but never comes down when its a good one as they say,, supply and demand
DOVEScot Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 ive said it many times b4 ,,, the grain goes up when its a" bad harvest" but never comes down when its a good one as they say,, supply and demand It is never going to come down, powers at be own and control the production, the higher the prices, the better for them. If there is a world drought or flooding America rubs there hands because the prices go up Why pay the prices from belgum when you can encourage british suppliers to to do the same mixes We all bleat about our patriotism and we are the first to buy everything from abroad :-/ Then bleat when we have no local jobs Tell Bucktons to get there finger out and compete with versa laga, on quality and mix from british farmers How can it be cheaper to buy from belgum than from the uk
Steve0 Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 But can you put a price on this great hobby i would find the money if it was £100 a bag Steve0...
