Guest Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i know this doesnt concern everybody but as im only 60ish miles from coast and if we dont get channel racing this year because of ban i will either turn north to get some distance or call it a day and go fishing with Vic ,although this is a hyperthetical situation you can not ignore it as i know even though theres no ban at mo i was talking to one of the oldest fanciers in this sport who has only ever raced distance and at the agm his club and fed have set an inland race prog only this means he can race up to 200 miles there is no north rd club he is out of radius for nearest even so at over 90yrs old his not as mobile as most some might suggest he gets in a team of sprinters but his had this family of birds for something like 60yrs with no outcrosses cant be fair can it
Guest chrisss Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 no it is not fair my local club turned north to get some distance and frankly until the rpra grow a pair or we start acting like the french when their "ban"came in we are stuffed
Guest NUMA Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i've already stated in another thread that if we get no channel racing this year i'll pack up the racers and get sme fancy birds instead just to keep me occupied.i know a couple of other fanciers who feel the same.
Roland Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Agree wholeheartly with the above two posts ... Unforetunately in regards the RPRA, Dafra and any other concern regards pigeons, nothing will alter. Been too long where the 'Positined' and hence the governing bodies ahve done just as they've pleased. Now the Welsh are ideal situated distance wise for inland / shetland races. Who and why are these not available... because it didn't, and hasn't suited the 'Well positioned boys'. Tell you wha, it is a good bird that does the Lerwick into wales and make no mistake about that, especially a day / or hard race bird. Never had the merit due though, and concerns that could have, indeed should have looked after them, and many more didn't, and consequently many packed up. Any and every bigger 'Race Concern' should have in place a North / east or whatever already in place for when the Channel racing isn't available later! But they won't, they will make money with senile Sennon Cove crap!
Guest Vic Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Unfortunately, the majority of present day fanciers would be happy to race inland only. Let's hope there will never be a referendum on the issue. Yes the consensus is certainly anti channel. Sad but true.
Guest chrisss Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 this is my first year racing i am going north because my local club has too [going south is to uncertain and it is not going to change any time soon]
pjc Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 I can't understand why a fed would just set an inland programme when there is no restriction in place. But the members must have voted for it! There are many classic and national races available so use the inland races as trainers and fly the nationals if you want more distance racing. At this time of year the hysterior is starting already, what if this and what if that happens, if it does it does, just enjoy what ever racing we are fortunate to get because there is nothing we can do about it!
crazy pigeon boy Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i would turn north atleast you can get a good 600 mile race
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Worry about it WHEN and IF it happens and not before
Guest casbri Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 i would turn north road you will the distance ..north road flying is harder than south road
Guest chrisss Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Worry about it WHEN and IF it happens and not before plan for the worst hope for the best
Roland Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 plan for the worst hope for the best 100% right, am really suprised by Tammy's comment , a comment from such a well forward thinking realistic chappie a that! Must have been still sleeping ... Never mind what is the hardest rd, what matters to most is gaining a litle credit for deserving birds, and owners hard earnt endeavours. Why not have a secondary program n place? I'll tell you one reason... It's so the priledges few can race from such silly liberation points as Sennon Cove and claim 'National' creedance. It's a Fast, and one that should have long been done away with. Secondarily, and even more to the bone is the worry that if they turn courses fanciers won't reverse back! And for sure many other - well deserving names - would no doubt have a spell, if only for a season or two, placings at the top. Merit all too often having not been coming, yet well deserving.
Guest IB Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 I wonder if the elderly fancier has maybe picked up an alternative program which will apply IF there's a ban on Channel Racing? Surely the normal Fed program would apply when there's no restriction? I can't believe a lot of folk would be too happy with racing to just 200 miles? The alternative is joining a classic club for the distance races. Surely someone locally is a member and could help with a lift to and from marking?
billy wilson Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 its sad but we have a no win situation all boiling down to defra and the frogies it would make a difference if all our orginisations had plenty of money to take defra to court it would all depend on the sponsers,to help us to doit so for the time being it like the 3 monkeys cheers billy
carlsberg Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 i'd rather turn north than race 180 miles to the coast most weeks
Castleview Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I only raced the channel in one year back in 96, but what's wrong with turning North? Lerwick is only about 550miles from where I live. My grandad raced both North and South at one point, using the same pigeons sometimes. Okay the weather can be bad in the North, so that's why you breed a set of youngsters who race North. That way if the channel racing continues safely you can continue and possibly breed a North and South pigeon together to get an all purpose pigeon. Either that or by a pair of sprinters.
Back garden fancier Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I'd go fishing with Vic, but I don't know him!!
Guest IB Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Interesting article in BHW 29th February on French Union's handling of their respective Government Department. They appear to have won their case that racing pigeons and pigeon racing has no AI case to answer. Seems this has been communicated to DEFRA. FRANCE IS OPEN AS FAR AS THE FRENCH ARE CONCERNED.
Roland Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Ah, but will the French allow us to fly over their terrain ... regardless of what they have said / statd to the Goverment body! I wouldn't give a fickled rats *expletive removed* on that! Indeed they would still probably ban us! Now that is worth a wager so to speak!
