Peckedhen Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 twiggs from silver birch trees use loads of them collect them by the bag full every time am out with the dogs and duncan they are FREE Hmm, I'd wondered about these. My dovecote fantails always choose to build their nests with sb twigs but they are always on dummy eggs. I wondered if the twigs might pierce the babies skin when they first hatch - they look so delicate. :-/
retired Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Hi sammy Just a curious question what benefits do the silver birch twigs give (apart from the being free part) and do you treat them before use eg. spray with duramitex. I am interested as i have pulled all nest felts out today and put the birds on straw but i dont see straw as my long term nesting material so i wonder if the silver birch would go well with the lavender stalks Kind regards
DOVEScot Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 twiggs from silver birch trees use loads of them collect them by the bag full every time am out with the dogs and duncan they are FREE Cheers We let them use loads of free natural things like heather, lavender, spruce leaves, straw, hay and how silver birch twiggs ;D They even pick up cable ties, string ect from outside the workshop We us the common terracota nest pans but thouht they were a bit bare on the base, so we use nest felts, do you recon they would do fine without them?
