Hi,

Just wanted to get some peoples thoughts on dove releases for weddings, as we went to a Wedding Exhibition yesterday in Kirkcaldy and there was a women there with two white logans advertising dove releases. Richard held one the birds and they were lovely and it got me thinking about having a dove release for the wedding, especially as Richard is a pigeon man and all.

It made me wonder where dove releases for weddings came from (I know about dove symbolizing peace)?? Also what are peoples thoughts on it?? And has anyone had a dove release for their wedding and how did it go??

Or even having 'chocolate" or another coloured pigeon released for the wedding?? (One of Richard's friends dad has lavendar coloured pigeons which are lovely).  :)

I'll do one for you if the wedding is in NE Lancs.  The Rapido Man has contracts all over - he might be worth a try.

I don't know where the releases originated. It is big in the States and I know that they do them in Greece too.

The Dove symbolises love, peace and new beginnings and of course they pair for life.  Some people even theme the whole wedding  around the doves.

You could release the birds from a display cage or a heart shaped basket or, even each hold a dove and release them together. You could then have another basket with a dozen or so birds in and release these to represent the love of your family and friends.

The photographer needs warning how fast the release is and, I always take a spare pair of birds lest, as has happened ::), he misses the birds entirely!! ;D

the web link is a nice site! Do the birds all live/return to the same loft or are there lofts dotted around the region?

Normally the one loft for small numbers, but I think the Fifer was involved in the Queens Golden Jubilee where they released 50 birds from all different lofts :-/
