sparrowhawk attack

I have a plastic Eagle Owl on the side of my hut, it has a large stick jammed up his jackson, when there is any wind, the owl moves slightly, not much, but it moves, i also have the radio on in the hut, when the birds are either out or in.

I have never used anything else to keep the b......s away from the hut, they have been spotted going across me but not into the birds when they are out or in the bath.

Am not saying that what i have done is the solution to the problem, but i can tell you its helped me through out the years keeping the birds. :) :)

Old hat now, but p73 of this report gives an overview of deterrants fanciers in Scotland used, and how effective they thought them.

Haven't come across and explanation why they work, but mirrors / reflectors was perceived to be the most effective. Think there's a post on Birds of Prey thread that partially explains it.

These systems work but only in short term, works on the priciple S/H being a very territorial bird, has its own area, wherby sight//glimpse of its own reflection causes confusion,it is a fearsome little creature and will eventually overcome these deterrents if it has to,i.e no other options.
