Guest karl adams Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 my first round of young birds didnt last long as i had 28 and i now have 12 i hope these 12 will help me to hold my second round as when i tryed to brake the first round i had nothing to play them with i have 24 parted and waiting to go out just hope i do better this time
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 How old are your second round in the photos and how old are they before you are letting them out? They look very nice by the way - but I don't see any yellow down on any of them and wonder if you are leaving them too long before letting them out - so that they are too strong on the wing
Guest karl adams Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 these are about 28 to 30 days old and not been out as the weather is to bad but at least i have the other 12 that i can try and old them with
Guest spin cycle Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 have you another 24 to break out ? they are cracking birds, you've certainly got breeding sussed. poor karl..you've got people like me saying it's to cold and if they make a mistake its curtains and then redcheqhen saying don't wait til they are to strong. truth is she is right, but hopefully the weather will warm up a little..and soon. i wouldn't let your original 12 out at the same time as they may drag them away. basket them ,put them in a different section or let them exersice first. where they will help is when you have ybs out overnight and you let them out in the morning they will help pull them in. this has been/is a difficult season to start and you've just got to stick to it. you'll hear lots of different advice/opinions in pigeons , but in the end you have to find your own way (what works for you). best of luck :)
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 what happened to the ones you lost? how ? how old were they ? any advice needed just ask:)
Guest karl adams Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 the young birds i lost had been flying around the house for 3 weeks then the 1 day a team of other birds hit them and that was it i got 7 back on that night and 5 worked in 2 days later 3 out of the 5 had been down some were as the plastic rings had gone off there legs
pjc Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 If the birds got carried away by others then its not down to the age at which you let them out. There are old fanciers who don't let the youngbirds out until the eyes have changed colour, but they do need to be able to look around to become familiar with the surroundings.
Guest Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 these are about 28 to 30 days old and not been out as the weather is to bad but at least i have the other 12 that i can try and old them with Those birds sat in that flight are older than 28-30 days! They should be out wlaking the garden and not sat in a flight> Soon as they getting upto a perch get them out.
Guest karl adams Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 would it be ok to breed a 3rd round of young birds now or should i rest the birds for abit as i would like to breed some more just in case i have more loses and i would like to fly some as old bird next year
Merlin Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 No problems if you want to take a third round, making sure they get through full moult, you could breed away till around mid-june,if you do make sure and train them this season
DAVE1975 Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 I PART MINE AT 21 DAYS OLD AND LIKE THEM OUT AND ABOUT AT 22 DAYS TO START HAVING A GOOD LOOK AROUND I THINK THIS HELPS ALOT
Guest Paulo Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 YB's need to be out as soon as they are weaned if they won;'t go out put them in the basket and out on the platform so they can have a good look around. Only weather I don't let them out in is high winds
