Tony C Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Identifying weaknesses ......... much is said about pigeons and how to try and improve them but what about ourselves! Have you perhaps identified a weakness in your system that you hope to rectify this coming season?

Have you perhaps identified a weakness in your system that you hope to rectify this coming season? good post tony, i used to try a few different things, methods , motivations, in fact try anything ;D,,,,,but at the end of each year i would write in my wee book ;D not going to do that again , maybe try that though ,, that ones def .out etc etc etc ;D a bit mad really,, but it worked ;D
Hogni Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Yes a really good post, like you say we are always trying to improve our birds but in my opinion it is more often the manager that needs improving, good management comes first, second a good loft and then third good pigeons. Like Jimmy i have always written down what has worked well and what has not and i try to improve good ideas. For the next young bird season i will try to focus on the feeding as i feel that i have not payed enough attention to it in past years, so that will be what i will try to rectify in my system.
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 You are right I am quitting my job and drinking more I am sure I will win more races and will feel better about the ones I dont
Merlin Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 You are right I am quitting my job and drinking more I am sure I will win more races and will feel better about the ones I dont Very good Slug ya gotta have humour, but seriously though how often is it put down to poor birds, when fancier and system is at fault, very sensible post Tony
Hogni Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I agree Merlin, i´m sure we all have heard someone blame thier poor birds for no results. And i´m sure we have all heard, poor birds can get results with good management in a good loft.

I do think the good birds come before the loft????No use have a fancy loft with a load of c--p in it.
retired Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I have discovered the biggest possible weakness in my system this year. Lack of motivation - if the boss is not motivated then its impossible for the bird to be, at the minute the few old bird racers i have are sitting on open door doing as they please at a time they should be on widowhood under strict control
Hogni Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 I do think the good birds come before the loft????No use have a fancy loft with a load of c--p in it. I said nothing about a fancy loft, it can be an old worn down shed for all i care, but it has to work for the birds, everything must have a purpose, if it doesn´t have a porpose, throw it out, i don´t feel like i have to mention ventilation and that everything has to be dry but some things are not to often said. The birds absolutely have to be able to stay healthy and happy. No use having good birds in a bad loft, it will not get you anywhere.
