pjc Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Whats wrong with using good show racers? There constitution has been improved over the years for showing purposes but they are still racers! I was approached a couple of years ago by a very well known continental flter for 12 pairs of show racers suposidly to use as feeders! If they are used to improve the racers quality but they still perform then whats the problem with that? If you look at the Olympiad birds do you realy think they are not crosses of some sort, just look at the type etc but they have still reached the required race standard. Phil
Guest Vic Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 It's all down to the end of the day! Can these guys win with anything? Seems to me they can. Enough said surely, before any more money is wasted!
Guest Paulo Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 " even a NEHU'' class the lads round ours used to be like this with scottish pigeons back in the 80's as they thought they would be better distance birds than our own. T
pjc Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 There is actualy no such breed as a show racer. They are racing pigeons that have been bred to improve type and feather quality! Phil
just ask me Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 so they are really out and out show birds cant imagine putting these in your stock loft would help matters
gangster Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 There is actualy no such breed as a show racer. They are racing pigeons that have been bred to improve type and feather quality! Phil......1 nobody said there was anything wrong with show racers .my lads got some.fanastic lookers....as for racing ability id doubt they could do the job in there present form but nobody is asking them too .
pjc Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 gangster, who said there was anything wrong with show racers? They will fly and I have won with them pure and crossed many years ago! Phil
swilcox Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Racers breed racers, homers breed homers and show pigeons breeds show pigeons. More importantly history has shown us that Winners breed Winners maybe skipping the odd generation but they are in there somewhere.t Stuart
gangster Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 ill re-phrase it from your own words WHATS WRONG WITH USING GOOD SHOW RACERS.....my reply nobody saidthere was anything wrong with show racers.....then you ask again who said theres anything wrong with show racers,,,,,i did not say there was did i ????? and i never questioned if you flew years ago with them,,,,did i or am i missing something...???
pjc Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 No you didn't gangster, sorry! Just pointing out that show racers arn't a different breed and are only racers that have had there constitution and type improved through breeding. No different to improving out and out racers by selective breeding. Phil
FLAPPER 123 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 show racers are bred for their looks, not their racing ability...horses for courses
joe61 Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 serious quiston could someone tell me what they see when they look at a pigeon on its perch in the loft oh happy days
swilcox Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 A potential Champion!!! Until the basket proves otherwise.
Guest mikkey Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 ok fellas and ladies this is how i see it, before i stick my beak in im not a racing man so maybe im talking crap, i hear a lot of stuff about pigeon racing is in decline in this country and people dont recognise pigeon racing as a sport, well thats hardly surprising, why dont you try promoting british birds instead of buying birds from abroad that are no better than our own birds for a start, why should people get interested in racing when fanciers keep telling them that they need foreign breeds to succeed..............if you want the sport to survive keep the money over here and stop giving it to belgium and holland where i believe the sport over there is thriving............................if you think im wrong let me know but do it nicely :P
gangster Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 mikkey 1st is uk and poland came equal 1st in the olympiad(world cup of pigeons both showing/racing)so theres 1 thing that tells us we do have both the racing results and the top show birds here.....the sports not declining due too imported birds....more so to do with clubs not combining together making bigger stronger coist effective racing....why have 3/4 clubs with less than 15 members each when you can have a club with maybe 60 members flying ...in the same area and make the club competetive...answer...most clubs have flyers who dont really want competition because they take everything.....
Guest mikkey Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 so really its the fanciers themselves that are killing the sport , if their too set in their ways or too lazy to do summat about it then they cant complain, these small clubs with only a few members will just die off and that is a fact unless they do summat to promote the sport they are supposed to love :P
gangster Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 yes we do need to self promote a lot more....and im an advocate of using some of the moneys raised at blackpool to fund it...some of it not all as it does get used for good causes..........I MUST ADD PIGEON FLYERS ARE THE 1ST TO STAND UP AND HELP!!!! VIA SALES EITHER 1 OF OUR OWN OR OTHER VERY WORTHY CAUSES..

swilcox Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Look, where you buy your birds from isnt really relevent as long as there from a practicing Pigeon Fancier, that way it all stays within the sport!!! I have just finished doing the WOESRC phone in sale, i managed to get some friends from Holland and Belguim to donate and the average prices made by those foriegn birds is at least double those of the UK donators, not because there better but different and more difficult to get hold of. Stick to buying from Pigeon Fanciers and the wheels of the sport will continue to turn, but saying all that pigeon racing isnt just about money, or buying its about friendship, enjoyment with your birds and waiting on a saturday, those are the things that non fanciers who use the sport as a business dont appreciate or care about.

billy wilson Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 stuart pigeons are definatley in decline but if you look at the chinese the sport has doubled in the last few years and they are paying well over the top for there birds.they will soon be having more pigeons than there population ;D ;D ;D they will have to bread a few more yet to catch up cheers billy

THE CHAINS OF OFFICE, AND OLD SCHOOL TIES, AND ALL THE INSIGNIAS THAT GO WITH IT (INCUDING THE HOLIDAY PERKS) SHOULD BE BURIED, BEFORE WE ALL ARE.
