chubs Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 At the moment i'm letting my young birds do as they please, they're doing the occaisional lap of street put mainley sunning themselves on my roof, they've only been out 3/4 days so didn't think flagging or owt would be a good idea plus they're so young. With my rollers i've always flagged & they catch on quick but didn't want to do the same with these & assume once they get stronger on wing they'll start putting the miles in. They're getting all the can eat & a semi open loft... Am i doing the right thing? what would you do???
rembrant2coo Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 your learning them a bad habit have them out yes for a certain time then feed them in and get in to a routine of doing so that they will decide for them selves how long they want to stayout but you have to have control over them as well when you want them in and the only way is through there stomach , you will find they will come in to a call as well so you have a little work to put in to get them to obey the feeding time is very important for youngsters they know
chubs Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 Cheers, was giving them a couple of days to settle, the above what rembrant said was what i've done with my rollers in the past but didn't want to cut there food too much as they've got more work ahead of them than the rollers & wanted them to have best start.
pjc Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 the other thing to do as well as keeping them under control is not to feed them to heavy a food mix if you want to get them flying. Once a few start taking to the air the others will follow but if in a couple of wks you still have a couple just sitting arround then get the broom behind them and get em in the air.
chubs Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 Cheers, if you see this madmax what do you reckon pal? you bred them & have done well with them what would you do?
