Diydave Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 As Autumn is fast approaching, and young bird racing comes to a close after the classics, nationals etc in september. Meetings then take over, so , my question to members is :- WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE A GOOD WORTHWHILE ADDITION TO THE PRESENT RULES, one that would be beneficial and sensible for the sport of racing pigeons as a whole ? and also please add any rules that you think need deleteing, maybe something outdated or no longer needed ?? hope this gets your minds thinking
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 scrap the rules on returning strays, most do not want them back, and it would kill off the vultures that call themselves pest controllers,
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 scrap the rules on returning strays, most do not want them back, and it would kill off the vultures that call themselves pest controllers, I always wanted all my birds back no matter what as I have found out that they can turn out to be good birds at some point
Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I always wanted all my birds back no matter what as I have found out that they can turn out to be good birds at some point i agree with you i have had 3 reported this year all were sent for, but lets face it ,a lot of strays are not claimed, and like many of the rules nowdays are based on older [maybe better ]days,

Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 all reported birds have to be claimed yes you are right ,i should have put it better,a lot of lost birds go unreported, because they/you know the tale, its bred by a minor pigeon god /its great ,do you want it,the rule has to change,if you get a few birds reported thats you done for,and yes i agree you should claim/collect your lost bird
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 if you look at facts the big flyers are the worst for not sending for strays normal bods mostly do
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 scrap the rules on returning strays, most do not want them back, and it would kill off the vultures that call themselves pest controllers, Take a ride out to your local R.S.P.C.A , avairys full of racing pigeons , why ? because 9 times out of 10 they know there fate owners dont want them back , you may not but many do , if you cant send for them or there arent up to it dont send the poor things down the road in the first place
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Take a ride out to your local R.S.P.C.A , avairys full of racing pigeons , why ? because 9 times out of 10 they know there fate owners dont want them back , you may not but many do , if you cant send for them or there arent up to it dont send the poor things down the road in the first place hear hear
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Forgot to add R.S.P.C.A hardly ever reports pigeons

OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 theres a lovely thing called a transporter i put any stray south in a box give it to the driver he releases at liberation site the bird gets home , i go 86 miles north from me to Sunderland once a fortnight i drop N.E.H.U strays up along where they live any above Sunderland get a toss at Sunderland , how much do i charge to get these birds back to there owners ???? nothing a thankless job of feeding some for nearly 2 weeks but if this helps the sport then ill continue , its a shame most of the fanciers put them back straight in to next race rather than get them resetled and re trained , the last basket i let go at Sunderland they all dint even know how to leave the training create , that speaks volumes to me , there first experience of a basket proobably was there first race
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 well done rose , if there informed at leat they can say well you can pay £32 for amtrak or a £32 donation to the sancturary where there kept

ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 iagree but if they report them same thing dont want out of nat winner but then they could be forced to collect

Guest chrisss Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 it probably was some daft git like me don't know you cannot comment ;D ;D ;D ;D but everybird deserves a fighting chance to get home[even if the owner would not agree]
Guest Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Put up price of rings £10 each. No wonder so many strays around when it costs you only 25p or so to legalise it for racing no matter how clever or dumb it is. How many fanciers pay a tenner for a goldring bird then when they get reported they say keep it? More the opposite. If it not worth a tenner don't breed it!!! Rpra could offer a free return service inclusive so cost nowt for amtrak etc.
Guest spin cycle Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 its probably a silly rule and it doesn't affect me..but the defra 7 day isolation rule needs to be tackled by rpra..it seems unfair that some fanciers are obeying the rule whilst others ignore it and win. rule 142 needs deleting as it is far to open to abuse (southern region tried last year). perhaps a one race suspension for failing to claim a stray would motivate more fanciers to claim strays.......don't know though. i'd make wingstamping voluntary as at least you'd know if the owner wanted it back.JMO.
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 defo the isolation rule its going to cripple national flyers
Tony C Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 My views are the way the RPRA actually implement rules needs to be looked at first. The procedure of propositions taken firstly through club then Federation then Region then Council is outdated. The current structure was implemented donkeys years ago because it was neigh impossible for ordinary fanciers to attend meetings out of town so to speak due to lack of public transport and where the favoured mode of transport of the day was a pushbike. All rule changes I believe should now be done democratically by balloting the membership via post or Internet, I think that’s the only way the ordinary fancier will ever have he’s/her voice heard.

Tony C Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 The RPRA have a rule stating the minimum time between libs from the same site is 10 minutes, I would like to see this changed to at least 20 minutes.
