europa birds are set to go sun

£30,000 is quite a fair sum of money but it worries me that a fanceir that gets a pigeon in from this race could contact the club that the ring was supplied to which in turn would lead to which member was supplied with the ring.

Let's hope that no person abuses what pigeon racing is about which is flying from A-B and the fastest vel wins and not getting a lift in a car from Scotland,North of England or were ever to the loft in Cardiff.[/quote

this looks like a total sham gareth, surely questions must be asked. :( :( :( :(

i think all the pigeons are transferred to europa classics so the secertary woulsdnt be any help

If you look at the BHW around May it gives you all the RPRA clubs and ring numbers within it so would not be very hard to trace to the original owner.

JIMMIES THE MAN, NONE ON THE DAY, I'D SAY. (ONE  EXPERIENCED WINK TO ANOTHER MAYBE?) best of luck to THE BIRDS, SINCERELY.

my opinion is,, that this, was the worst liberation of all times , be it for money  :( :( :(  the route of all evil, :( :( :(,, through this,, there are 1,100 young pigeons left out,  over night in the worst of conditions,[i am just a few miles from hopetoun house, and beleive me , the weather has been shocking all day] with little hope of many of these returning back to their loft , being a spectacular loft or not,,in my opinion, having entered this race  in the past [and scoring] found out that , there is a certain element of con,[to say the least] and  would never enter in this race again,,,,. but you can be assured there will be birds timed in tomorrow????

No one has any doubts about this Tom as i have seen them at liberation in the past and they are a credit to Derek and his team, but how many was in charge of the decision to liberate the birds today.???

What a waste of some no doubt some absolute fantastic pigeons, goodness knows how many months of training and goodness know how many people's time and good faith today.  Think of those poor pigeons sat goodness knows where wondering what the hell they have been let go for and from where.  Those that have gone into local lofts around Edinburgh are the lucky ones.  All those fanicers sent their best pigeons may as well have chucked their money on a bonfire.  The forecast tomorrow shows alot more hope for a decent race.  As my other half has just said, if this neglience was shown to racehorses or greyhounds then criminal charges would be brought but as its just racing pigeons then who gives a damn.  This will hardly bring 'good publicity' to what is already a dying sport.  But hey, what does it matter, we've got the money in for the race entries, pools, beer and food money for today so we're not bothered.

sadly no birds were recorded tonite

but this has noo reflection on derek an co

this is soly down to the conditions and hopefully a few will return mon

im down there at the loft in the morning and will update accordingly

Tom, there can be no excuses.  If the returns are poor and the cause is the weather it has to be down to the person giving the nod to liberate, unless he was given the wrong line of flight conditions/forecast.  if it was Derek who gave the nod he has to accept responsibility, without question, just as any race controller does nationwide.  I think it is incumbent upon him to now explain what forecasts/line of flight forecasts he received, and on what basis he gave the instruction to liberate.  The result may well admonish him, who knows.

anybody only had to look at this forum this morning to see the birds shouldn't go up!

If it was a fed or combine somebody would be sacked but this won't happen here, they can't sack themselves they'll just start thinking about next year and more money!

I am not sticking up here for Nicholson in any way but surely a race of this calibre should have a race control team, for the amount of money that has been spent organising this race it should be all team work and not down tio just one man.  I was at the liberation today, the birds were in excellent condition and cleared the liberation site in no time at all.

Having attended the liberation this morning, I felt it was better weather conditions then last year.

I spent a bit of time looking at the birds and if the truth be known they were in fantastic condition, some of the best darkness youngsters I've ever seen, the health of the birds was 100%.

Derek and the team had obviously done a fantastic job to have the birds in this condition.

It's totally unfortunate what the birds have encountered and possibly a Monday race would have been the best option, but if there had been a winner tonight, would it have been as bad as people are saying? not sure.

Lets hope some make it through early tomorrow, I'll settle for 1st prize........

I only hope that after reading your post that the type of controversy surrounding pigeon racing in scotland will not spill over to the europa race.

im not at all  clear what you mean here grass cutter :-/ :-/  i cant see him mention  "controversy surrounding pigeon racing in scotland" or  any other  controversy in gareths post ,,above :-/ :-/ :-/  this is a thread on the europa one loft race only ;)

iam very surprised that no one has mentioned the real reason for liberation that is a thousand people at the loft full of drink now i wouldnt like to be the person to go tell them there wont be a race to-day would you

to be totally honest we all expected birds on the 46 mile an hour mark on the wind conditions and expected arrivals around 61/2 hrs to 7hrs  ok it never happened but we fight another  day and will be there tomorrow
