sammy Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 EVERYBODY FORGOT ABOUT HAWKS think that is number one
peterpau Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Too many stock birds breeding birds with inferior natural immunity
Beanz Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 I think that youngbirds are being given too much crap antibiotics and like, this makes them so that they don't work any more as happened in humans also too much notice is being taken of bits of paper instead of the basket, if a pigeon is ill treat it but some fanciers are giving them week in week out and in my opinion that is why some birds are not 100% healthy they have no immune system. Andy8472 Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 i don't know what your pigeons are like but if your birds are as described above you clearly got problems there(if it's somebody else's birds your on about then they got the problems). i'll get the odd sneeze(the birds not me) but that's about it. and as for birds being put in sick if you don't say something to stop it your as bad as them. if you got respo problems cut down on the number of birds in there or increase the ventilation. i believe most of my the losses are down to clashing/hawks . i also think that birds of today are kept lighter and leaner than birds of yesteryear and as a result don't have the resources to fall back on if they make a mistake/ scattered by a hawk. how many keen young bird racer's do you know don't feed em on a friday or very little(cruel gits). try this.. have no food tommorrow thenget up the next day and go and run a marathon and see how far you get. I didn't say anywhere in what i wrote that our pigeons were sick i was stating that some fanciers i no race pigeons that are not fit to race!! we got the young bird average this season, 2 1st feds and were 2nd in the fed averages! The point you make on not feeding or feeding very light the racers on a friday is a valid one & for must of us common sense, To us it's a big no no, we feed them as much as they want corn, dari, rice, linseed sometimes peanuts at longer races, We all have our different systems & beliefs alot of people say you can't win with fat pigeons because of them being unfit but with alot of training fat burns off & converts to muscle that's the way i have always raced & raced well!!
jimmy white Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 Too many y.b.s. bred and we should be ltd. to the number of rings we can have. 3years should do it and watch the number of losses drop. Best across the best and nothing else.....Same as dogs/ferrets etc. and I have both all my life and would not breed from anything ifffy(too many ferrets to feeed0 i thought on these lines a few years ago , in fact i stated if it were £5 per ring we would only breed from the very best , and any yb that didnt come up to standard ,i,e perfectly reared and bred would simply not be in the loft etc,,, but have seriously changed my mind, as yb racing is today,, no matter how perfect their reared or bred i still think we would loose a lot of £5,s

leighton1984 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 I think all the points do not help with young bird losses. ever week birds get sent to races when they are not up for the job. sick/ unfit/ not trained /. all pigeon men have a pair that they never ever lose young birds out of even on very bad days . i think they are birds with lion heats and the love for home. breed more young from that pair and losses will drop.
Guest shadow Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 to much rubbish bred, and lack of good training
