ch pied Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 fair play to these organisations for there forward thinking not only are some of the best fanicers in the world there but they seem to lead the way too i really cant see why this cant be the norm seems to make sence to cut down on possible cross infection and ch pied is there any calls for the oldbirds to be done this way as well as ganster said birds woud settle better i would love to see this happen but some pll dont like change dosent matter what it is we have to move with the times the practice of buying your own crate/s is for y/bird's only , their immune system hasen't reached a level were the like's of YBS / CIRCO , would have little effect on them , every thing that can be added to the well being of the bird's is employed to keep x - infection to a min
Tony C Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 My club/fed are this year allowing fanciers to put their pigeons in the same crate if they so wish. We have a Geraldy transporter and each crate has its own individual drinker. We're doing it as a trial to see if y/b/s hits those who's pigeons are not mixed with others. Update After 4 races of using individual crates only one members pigeons have gone down with YBS and that was after he sent half he's team in another Fed where these pigeons were mixed.

Ian McKay Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Aberdeen Federation have a Geraldy transporter and I would like this idea which was put forward at the last AGM and failed. I personally would like to see this applied after all it affects no one, except them that wish to apply it, all members birds still go on the vehicle.
just ask me Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 ud imagine in the world we live in with defra and all that this should be the case anyway
jimmy white Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 wicker baskets [not looked after properly , and they need a lot of looking after ] are a haven for desease ,bugs etc ,,wire crates steam cleaned every week would be better in my opinion , plain water in drinkers ,, birds will drink better ,, milton diluted in their water on home comming will bathe their crops of any bacteria [it will only be effective for 20 mins ,] this well leave sterile water ,,but ,,able to be contaminated again after this time

My y/birds flew the whole y/bird race program, the first time they've managed to do so in the last 8 years or so. Lets hope we adopt this practice for good.
