Les Varney brought some of Les's birds, when he packed in the sport, some went to America and i had the rest. Les moved to Manea in cambridgeshire (not far from me). I actually helped him to find his bungalow, he kepted birds there for around two years and jioned our club March Inv South Road but never raced. I believe i am correct in saying that. I have not seen Les for a number of years now, so dont know if he is a live. He took up Golf with the Ramsey club and became a handy golfer. A chap named Moss brought a lot from Les and still sells them. He advertises in The homing world. Hope this helps.

les varney had a fantastic team of catrysse and if memory serves me right he won the london north road combine twice with them in the 80's, i remember it quite well as when i was a young boy i regularly visited his home on weekends to help him out, unfortunatly though i heard through the grape vine that les passed away a few weeks back. I remember one of his combine winners was blue metro but at the moment cant rember the other one, he was the man to beat back then

think metro was from berwick and true grit from stonehaven may has been thurso but im sure it was stonehaven ,  i think he bred the sire or dam of another berwick winner around the same time

Graham Moss of near Stratford had some lovely van braune and catrysse and has supplied birds to score at national level. The originals from A H Bennett and Davenport have probably (?) died however Graham did keep the families pure and he is a good stock man. Have not been there for about 6 years though. And as pointed out advertises in the BHW his last advert only appeared within the last 6 weeks I think.

Les Varney passed away a few weeks back, see RP and BHW. He was a good friend of mine and I raced against him for many years at Club and London North Road Combine level. He had many of his Cattrysse from Les Davenport with whom he had a good friendship. The sport has lost a great pigeon man. R.I.P. Les
